Right having a discussion regarding betting.

Now lets say horse racing, if theres some agreement between the Jockeys that one will lose, its match fixing, so they get you on fraud charges IIRC.

But how about interfering in a race, eg if I was sat at the side of the track and as they came past I played some ultra loud death metal or something to startle the horses.

Would that be against the law?

You'd barely hear it. Trust me :p

I guess if you, or someone you knew, stood to gain from it yes it would, same as you running on the track to stop a specific horse.

Only way i could see you getting away with it is if your actions either didnt affect any horses, or affected them all equally, although regardless i reckon they'd at the very least kick you out and re-run the race

I imagine that scenario would raise suspicion. My verdict would be that you would be nicked by the locals if there was a call and then investigated by a more specialised team.

Sadly, Death metal is not illegal in the UK, the worst that can happen to you is people shake their heads and look at you in a pitying manner then sigh gently in relief that it wasn't Rap music.

Might be some offence under specific laws around the horse/betting venue (is there any?!) But otherwise it's not really the sort of law that everyday Policing concerns itself with :p

Even match fixing isn't something your local constabulary will involve themselves in.

The jockey club and stewards would deal with it. The only time police would get involved is if harm had been caused to horse/person.
Unless your talking big money fraud like Kieron Fallon.

police will probably take an arrest first ask questions later approach whether it is illegal or not

see the courtsider arrested in Australia... they had no clue really why they were arresting him and thought he might have contact with players etc.. or something. Obviously tennis authorities don't like courtsiders and they made a complaint to the police... the police just responded to the complaint.

You'd likely find a similar response over here - if you do something related to a race that upsets the racetrack whether legal or illegal you'll likely find yourself arrested. Though the scenarios in the OP probably are illegal.
