I used to run portable firefox off a USB stick to bypass filters, and a portable version of msn messenger

Agreed, and while your on breaks or any free time, spend it in the library studying. I speak with the wisdom of hindsight.

I'll try it tomorrow, any you'd recommend?
Preferably one that works on linux, because we're allowed to connect our laptops to the school network and use them.

When I was at school computers and the internet didn't exist so didn't have that problem.
We had to work out how to get the Music teacher to play friggin in the riggin at the end of music class.
That involved steaming the label from a less controversial single and a Pritt Stick

yeah - don't play 16 player descent on the uni network, it's a large contributing factor to me failing 2nd year at Uni!

We have been known to LAN Counter Strike Source at school. But, who can blame us, it's a good game and we could argue that the network topology is Computer Science work.

They'll still be able to monitor you very easily though. Best thing is to gain access to an admin account. Then you can do the monitoring
