Nvidia Driver crashing on 4k 60hz - Know why but calling 4k SLI owners

Hi All,

Received my Asus PB287Q today:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-071-AS&groupid=17&catid=1895

And decided to have a play with it tonight on GTAV.

I first set it to DP1.2 in the screen menu which was fine, everything was showing at 4k @ 60hz but when I actually set that in game - it crashes the game and shows me a "NVidia display driver has stopped working message"

So I thought...hmm must be GTA being a fool so tried UT3/Madmax/UT4 and it all does the same on 60hz at 4k.

I have SLI 770's until next week when I get a 980ti but Im wondering what is causing it? Do 770's have dp1.2? Could it be the cable(it came with the monitor)

Any help would be appreciated as I want to try and diagnose now before I get my new card.

Thanks

So...SLI is the issue it seems. Disabled SLI and it let me set 4k at 60hz. Wont benefit me at the moment but for next week I know I wont have problems.

So my question now is, eventually I was going to go SLI 980ti - does anyone SLI at 4k and if so, how is it running and do you have any issues?

Sucks that SLI is causing you the issues as a single 770 isn't going to hold up well unless you play at 1080p or something.

A lot of people on here SLI at 4k, specifically I couldn't name anyone with 980Tis, but Kaap does fine with 4 way Titan X's at 2160p.

Meh, its cool for a week. lol

Hopefully a title change on the thread will call more assistance. Maybe its been updated for more recent cards instead of the older ones?

Have you tried different drivers? I've not had any of the recent issues some have had but 355.98 cause my single 780 rig to intermittently stutter as if its about to crash but then recovers and my old 470 SLI rig actually crashes.

I was on the one before last revision of nvidia drivers when I noticed so did a fresh install of the latest and had the same issue unfortunately.

Could maybe try some 3rd party drivers.

Yes, I use SLI Titan X at 4k 60hz and don't have any issues.

I use the HDMI 2.0 out though, not DP 1.2

You will need SLI for Ultra/60fps locked, even with a 980 Ti.

Either that or send the monitor back and get a G-sync one.

Do a clean(driver) wipe an install "355.60-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql".

I was under the impression that 2160p @ 60hz wasn't possible over HDMI due to bandwidth? Is this native for you or DSR?

If that's the case I can try later on.

And yeah, I plan on going SLI eventually with the TI's which is why I want to resolve the current issue of SLI not working on 770's.

Thanks, will give it a shot later on. I have a feeling I was already on those drivers though.

HDMI 2.0 (which all NVidia 9xx cards have) is capable of 4k60 :) Note: Your monitor (or TV) will need a HDMI 2.0 port too, other than that, any HDMI cable should work fine.

Quad SLI

I think you need to get your new 980 Ti fitted ASAP as games like GTAV @4k are very taxing on GK104 (GTX 770s) based cards.

Oh I know, I cant wait to get it!

Are you running on display port for your quad SLI or HDMI 2.0?

thanks

Did this. Full screen on dp at 4k doesn't run at 60hx still.

HOWEVER!!!!!! I ran gta in windowed borderless with vsync on adaptive via nvidia control panel and it ran at 4k 60hz.

Not a real resolution but its a start at least.

SLI is only enabled in proper Fullscreen, which is probably why is ran alright.

Have you ruled out that GPU two might be broken?

Both cards were being used to the max though in borderless fullscreen so it seemed to be running correctly.

GPU 2 is fine, when I ran with SLI disabled at 4k I got 10fps in GTA, with SLI enabled it ran at 40fps.

This is very annoying. I don't want to go and buy 2x980ti's if I wont be able to run them in SLI at 4k.

I have seen a few other suggestions:
*Create a custom resolution for 59hz - same result
*Change SLI bridge - cant test
*run connected to bottom card - same result
*Change cable - cant test
*switch cards around - might test

So when I buy my card next week I might buy another DP cable and another SLI bridge just to test before I make the swap.

EDIT: Had a strange one there. Was playing UT3 as a test with SLI enable only at 1440p. Put it up to 2160p and it sort of stuttered and then died. No idea but it runs fine on a single card.

I am using a Display Port to Mini Display Port cable for my SLI setup and Display Port to Display Port cable for Quadfire on another PC.

Make sure you use good quality cables as some of them are poor for 2160p.

Considering ut3 stuttered for a while when I set to to 2160 it may well be the cable but I will test it next week before the switch.

Currently enjoying 1440p, some difference between 1080 and this so cant wait for 4k.
