Hi all,

I'm building my first gaming PC since 2008. I've been using my current PC for general use plus photo/video editing (24MP photos 1080p videos) using on board graphics, all gaming on a PS3 since 2010. Except for a rushed buy of MSI 7950 twin frozr (refurb) last Dec just to play Elite Dangerous.

I finally have a complete list and would appreciate any comments from those more expert than I as I feel like a newbie despite building my own PCs since 1994! It's a lot more complex now.

Fractal Design Define R4 Midi Tower Case - Black

EVGA SuperNova G2 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Asus X99-A/USB3.1 Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Intel i7-5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail
Alpenfhn Matterhorn Black CPU Cooler
EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti Superclocked ACX 2.0+ 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit
Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive

I will get a Samsung M2 PCIe (950 I think) later when they have been out a while. I will use my current Acer S271HL for a while until I've saved up for a bigger gsynch one.

NOTE some things are deliberately picked or future proofing, such as the USB 3.1 on the motherboard.

Thanks

The case, do you need 5.25" drive bays? if not get a Define S with window as its cheaper and all the 2.5"+3.5" drives are hidden behind the motherboard tray.

PSU, if you wanted SLI I tend to recommend a 1Kw PSU as X99 eats more power than Z97 etc.

Something like this (with the other board),

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980Ti G1 Gaming 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £575.99
1 x Gigabyte X99-SLI - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***50 Saving*** £441.98
1 x EVGA SuperNova P2 1000W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply (220-P2-1000-XR) £159.95
1 x Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500B/EU) £149.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M4A2666C15) £119.99
1 x Fractal Design Define S Midi Tower Case - Black Window £69.95
1 x Seagate 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (ST2000DM001) £54.95
1 x Alpenfhn Matterhorn Black CPU Cooler £39.95
Total : £1,628.94 (includes shipping : £13.50 Ex.VAT).

Looks solid mate, not sure how quiet the Evga 980ti is but the MSI one you can't hear. I recommend the Phanteks Luxe/ primo, have built into both of them a couple of times now and both are brilliant cases.

Thanks stulid. I will bump the PSU up to 1000W to future proof for SLI.
I have a BluRay writer, which I haven't used for a while but would still like to install it just in case. Saving a few quid on case isn't worth losing the 5.25.
Gigabyte X99SLI doesn't have USB3.1 - not necessary but I thought it would be more future proofing.
Is your choice of the 980Ti a better card than mine? I know it's dearer but that isn't always better if you know what I mean.
BTW I don't have to stick to £1600, just trying to get best value for money.

Hi,

I did say in the brackets to use the other board as you say it has 3.1, that spec is basically the same as one I did last night so I just copied+pasted it over and changed the case.

The Gigabyte GTX980ti is supposedly one of the best on the market, I also see RMA+support is a concern for you?....well that doesn't get much better than Gigabyte support.
