Since the OH had her car written off (not her fault) she has been using my Cooper S to commute in but the bugger has put 8000 miles on it in 2 months!!!
It's costing her a fortune compared to the Micra she had but seeing as I don't really use the Mini I said it's gotta be worth trying out but she still hates it...

As such we've decided to use the £1200 the insurance paid out to get something along the lines of a 1.6-2.0l diesel hack. Focus maybe? Ideally something that kind of size although she used to like my old passat estate...

Whats 174k like on these? Passat

Seems very cheap Focus

Anybody got any advice?

VW 1.9 diesel has to be the answer for this....but wtf @ 4000 miles per month commuting out of her own pocket?! And in a Micra too?

Yeah gets expensive quickly at >30mpg although the mileage will be dropping a bit :/
TDI or SDI?
Non PD I take it?
I had the 1.9TDI in th Passat and loved it... Completely faultless. Had a similar 1.9TDI in a MK4 Golf and it was a pile of crap, EGR problems, turbo VNT problems. PAS rack went :/
Would love the Passat back

And there was me thinking putting 4k on my bike in the 3 months since I passed my test was good going!

I do every month 3500 miles

My last month fuel bill was;

Miles 3498
Cost £330.12
Real MPG 52.11

If I was getting 29.98 MPG it would cost £580 PM

So saving £250 an month thats £3K !!!!!

Definitely an oil burner is required

Jettas are usually cheaper than Golfs and are more aero so gain better MPG on linger trips. Might be worth a look.
