Crime over the generations.

Breach of the peace. Putting people in state of fear and alarm.

It was never "illegal" to cross dress I don't think, but one could be arrested if cross dressing under sodomy and solicitation laws since those macho macho men of the MET could see no good reason why someone would dress as a woman.

My reply to you bothered me  maybe because a little bit of me understands where you are coming from. I just felt you were admonishing the wrong people :(
Forgive me :)

I forgive you. It's not the police fault, it's Home office police advisory board fault.

This is also interesting explanation from US.

Number of homicides is down, not because less people get shot, but because doctors and first aid crews are better at keeping them alive despite getting shot.

Now you could arguably check stats and see if serious violent crimes in general or attempts of murder are on the rise etc.

But who knows, article I link is from WSJ, which is quite republican and defends gun ownership (i guess, i'm not so familiar with US newspapers).

Cameras and media obviously pick up a lot of crime nowadays. There are also more crimes on the statute to fall foul of.

As a mad biker of the seventies, I used to break the law on occasion and often avoid being caught, but I think that humanity has not changed much in forty years to warrant much change in the actuality of criminal behaviour.

Before you go due to the "spam" burnsey. Who is this spie? Is that the owner?

Old owner, he sold the company to the Germans for a shed load of money and is enjoying his retirement in Switzerland.

Not that he needed to as the company made him millions every year anyway

Theres no more crime these days, there's less, but the few 'worst case' examples we have get plastered over the myriad media channels pretty much the moment they happen.

Take islamic extremism, 50 years ago you'd have the same fears and prejudices but it wouldn't be muslims we blamed, it'd be the ira.

Take the recent attacks in paris, it's within living memory that paris suffered a lot worse from a nation we'd be pleased to call advanced and civilised these days.

We've had an immigration crisis ever since we stopped invading everywhere.

Etc etc, the world been going to hell for thousands of years every generation fighting the same battles and making the same mistakes, the only thing thats changed is the flags involved, the weapons used, and the way of finding out.

Less reporting? Would that have anything to do with their being less crime taking place?

Less reporting does not mean less crime.
Violent crime in London soars by 22 per cent

The detailed figures show that rapes carried out at knifepoint rose by 48% in the past year from 199 to 294, while sexual assaults by knifepoint were up 22% from 91 to 111.

ONS statisticians said the 21% rise in rape and other sexual offences was driven by an increase in the willingness of victims to report the attacks to police, as well as an improvement in police recording practices.
