Cameron's housing plans

So how do we provide homes for the needy?

Workhouses will be brought back eventually, they've already bypassed the minimum wage law by bringing in work for your benefits schemes it's the next obvious step to cutting the deficit. No benefit pay at all you just get a bed and food and 40hrs work, living the Tory dream...

housing benefit in the rental sector.

Private rents in the South East are fast outstripping LHA rates. Unless rent controls are introduced, which wont happen, people on housing benefit won't be able to rent privately.

housing associations Housing assocations buy a lot of their stock from the private devleopers at discounted prices. These new rules will put a stop to all that.

council accommodation Dont make me laugh. There's barely any left

could easily build more council or housing association homes in London for example if we flogged off the ones in more expensive areas.

there is no 'need' for a new private development to have to provide social housing... then you get silly situations like a new block of posh apartments having a separate 'poor door' for the social tenants because the housing association can't cover the cost of a hotel style lobby + concierge etc... (plus it helps when marketing the flats to separate the social housing ones anyway)

Trouble is, nearly 100% of new developments in London are private now.

We should just face it, as Long as Cameron is in charge, the poor and disabled of the South East are ******.

200k they need to build like 2m homes to stand any chance of the housing market not going more crazy!
The housing market needs depressing urgently, otherwise there will be bigger problems for London and south east

There will be very little social housing available, and these new plans will turn social housing areas into bigger cesspits than they are now. Trust me on that one.

if social housing makes areas into cesspit, then why would you want to make every new housing development, in your own words, into a cesspit?

that is another good thing - again private developers shouldn't be having to subsidise this

we've still got plenty of social housing in zone 1 and 2 - managing housing London wide and selling it off in zone 1 and 2 could easily fund building more further out in London

we've also got the issue of not being able to move tenants on - even trying to tackle the issue of under occupancy get met with bleating about the 'bedroom tax'...

should scrap being able to pass on council tenancies to offspring, we should introduce strict means testing and shift people into the private rental sector when they can afford it and just simple move people when they no longer need multiple bedrooms due to their kids leaving home etc.. forget the bedroom tax, just turf them out if a smaller property is available and let the larger property go to someone who actually needs it

They need to build a lot of 1 bed houses with 2 parking spaces for the £130-150k range

I am 21 with 50k+ deposit, And I am still unable to find anything..

well give it a few years - I know it is tough being 21 with 50k in the bank but I think you'll be OK in the end

If someone's lived in an area all their life, they shouldn't just be turfed out to let the rich in.

If they can't afford the pay the rent and/or don't own a property there then why not?

Just because you're born in say Chelsea doesn't mean the state is obliged to give you a flat worth close to a million to live in because you ended up in a modest job and can't afford to live there.

200k house. You have 50k. So 150k mortgage?

You wanted 2 parking spaces, so i guess there will be two of you? 150k/4 = 37.5k?

You don't have a combined income of £37.5k?

I have lived where I have lived all my life. I can't afford a house round here. I look elsewhere. How the world works.

Gentrification has been happening forever, sign of progression. There are winner and there are losers.

It's a con of renting. No security.

Wow!, you come across as very uncaring to me. You also seem like you have a grudge against people on benefits.

no just being realistic - you come across as having an entitlement issue

I don't have an issue with providing housing to people I do think it is wrong to expect a private company to subsidise it or to expect it to be provided in the most expensive areas of the capital where the assets could be put to much better use elsewhere.

I'm not talking about people just moving in. I'm talking about people who have been living in the same place for a long time. If the housing benefit covers their rent and they are decent citizens, why should we be able to turf them out?
