Gaming headset replacement for a Plantronics Gamecom 780

Hey,

My 33 quid Plantronics Gamecom 780 Gaming headset's headband snapped off after over 2 years of ownership, currently RMA'd back to Plantronics who still allowed it to be returned. It was good while it lasted and at the time it's sound quality rivalled more expensive ones.

Is this still the case? I'm looking for the absolutely best quality surround sound headset I can get, I don't care how ugly it looks, I was looking at the Sennheiser pc 363d which looks really good.

Anyone got experience with it or any headsets that rival it in terms of sound quality? Sennheiser for me are top end studio quality headphones so I expect it to be good!

I too used the plantronics for years, but eventually moved away from simulated surround sound as software representation of it is actually pretty bad. I started to use them only in stereo and then just moved to a studio headset which is miles better.

Do you actually use any games that benefit from 7.1 or is it for watching films and stuff too?

I use the Plantronics for everything, gaming and movies, etc. I found it quite good for Games, I can pinpoint footsteps and subtle noises and found them enjoyable with Call of Duty, but I hear it's even better in Battlefield 4.

Sennheiser is a high end headphones manufacturer that makes studio quality headphones and are normally well balanced, I have an 8 year old pair and they are still solid and sound just as good as they did when I bought them, that's why I'm wondering whether it would be a really worth getting the Sennheiser pc 363d as I used the plantronics quite heavily, it's not just occasional use. I used to use them every day up until a week ago when they snapped.

Ah fair enough, i would have recommended trying them in stereo and whether you really noticed any difference, because i couldn't, but obviously that won't be possible!

As you say Sennheiser are well known for making good quality cans, so you can probably surmise that their 7.1 offerings would be equally good. But, gaming headsets tend to not be built as well as studio headphones, so read reviews and see what others say about specific models!
