Hi folks,

Just thought I'd put up a wee post about the new motor. Spent a few hours today cleaning it. Had a few folk stop and want to know more about it which was nice. They don't appear to be very common.

It's a Volvo C30 D3 SE Lux, it has the 5-cyl Volvo engine with 150bhp. At the moment I am getting 52mpg on my 62 mile round trip commute, which is a mix of back-roads and A1 dual carriageway.

Bit of a step up from the Seat Leon, for one thing my back now likes me again :p Comfort is good in this car.

Just thought I'd share!

Cheers
Dave

Heh, yep and they are heated too which is helping my back.

The D3 did change to be a 4-cyl later on, but it gets confusing as they use the D3 brand for both 4 and 5-Cyl depending on the car its in (And bhp amount)! Thanks Volvo.

Never liked the looks of these, but they are a nice engine and a nice place to sit in.

52mpg is impressive from the 5 cylinder lump! I get mid 30s on a run, low 30s average from a D5.

Whoa, that is quite low! Done 3 tank fulls now and worked it out on paper rather than rely on the computer. It was actually pretty accurate.

Pretty shocking in the D5.
Im getting 40-43 depending on how I drive it over the 2 months or so I have owned it. (v70 2011 with the 205ps twin).

Mind you a lot of that is motorway so maybe just what its designed for :)

I have owned 2 C 30's, one a petrol and one a diesel.
The only thing I miss about owning one now is the blissfully comfortable seats.
They are a pain to access the back seats, the boot is small and I had a load of problems with the diesel engine after about 14 months of ownership, which the dealer tried his best to sort out, but could never replicate the intermittent fault.
So for safety sake I replaced it with a Toyota.
Had it not have been for the engine problems I would probably still have it even with the aforementioned access and boot problems.

I average just over 40mpg in my V50 D4 (5 cylinder) and probably high 40s - 50mpg on a run.

Not bad. Manual? I think the auto box kills the economy. Mines an auto 2012 XC70 215ps.

The seats are one of the main features that sold the Volvo to me. Other than a RR, I haven't been in a car with comfier seats!

Maybe as the C30 uses the de-stroked D5 at only 2.0ltr and its not as lardy as an XC90 thats a reason for the better mpg?

Averaged 49mpg last week.

In what? Even in my xc60 I get 35 mpg driving to work on B roads and mid 40s on long runs and it's the 5 pot d5 as well

That's why. The old Volvo auto was lousy. Knock about 10 mpg off your fuel economy. Was the only reason I went manual.

Current models have the new auto box which does better fuel economy than the manual now

Driven the v40 and the xc60 and both have the comfiest seats of any car I've driven. Love them

The new xc90 looks fantastic too
