Anyone got experience of eBay buyer protection?

Hi all,

Bought a phone from a guy on ebay. Was advertised as unlocked, but turns out it was actually locked to O2 (I actually found this out before the dispatch). So I contacted the seller and said don't dispatch the item, just give me a refund - since the item isn't as described.

Seller said he would pay to unlock the phone. I said no that can take too long (since it's a new model) and could he just please refund me. Since then I've had no response from them whatsoever. They never even dispatched the phone so it's not like I had to return it. Anyway now eBay have offered to step in and I've given them my story.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences? Did eBay pull through for you? I'm really hoping they can refund me the money.
 
I've heard horror stories of eBay customer protection but it mostly seems to be if you're the seller. Most of the stuff out there is from the sellers perspective.
 
eBay will give you your money back. As a buyer you have more protection than going to buy from a high street shop. 6 months warranty on second hand goods!

As a seller you are screwed. So don't panic, you will have all your money back shortly
 
Let him a block it what's the problem? If its android you just need a code. Loads of people selling them on the bay. Takes seconds once you have the code and they normally send the code straight away
 
Ebay/paypal will charge you £100 to refund your money
You will be blacklisted and banned from the internet for 3 weeks.

Or Ebay will refund you :)

thing is by now the seller could have got a code and unblocked it and informed the buyer. That's what i would have done. Clearly he's not going to now.

Because then you're stuck waiting for the network to release any software updates. Network locked phones are annoying.

I got the refund, so that's good.

Nope was on iOS so that's a no no. Could be a few days, could be weeks. Plus he was totally uncommunicative and didn't send the phone at all anyway.

Told you it wouldnt be an issue. This is why i love buying from Ebay. So much protection.

SO long as you avoid the scammers offering you to sell outside of Ebay last night.

I was outbid on an item and was 3rd highest bidder. He didnt offer me a second chance through ebay but emailed me and said the winner bid was fake (it might have been as brand new account with zero feedback) and did i want to buy it ouside of ebay at my bid price before he went through the hassle of relisting.

I was always a bit wary of this listing anyway as the account is only a month old and his feedback is 5 all for 99p things he bought in the first month and then he is selling a £2000 item but was happy to buy it cause of Ebay buyer protection.

I told him i would and he should offer it to me as a second chance through ebay and i have never heard back from him.

Also seen ones where when i have one they have messaged me asking to pay via paypal into a difference account cause its his "girlfiends paypal" account linked to his ebay account.

So long as you pay through Ebay and paypal, you cant really go wrong.

Only last month i got £2,937 refunded by paypal with no issues or concerns for a none delivery.

You should have asked for a £50 bribe not to leave negative feedback.
And then left negative feedback.

there was a thread in the gfx section where 2 OcUK members unknowingly bid on the same Titan Z gfx card, they both lost the auction.. then both of them were contacted by the seller offering it too them as the winner pulled out of the deal,
much fun was had :D
