I swear whilst on the train home last night my OPO flashed up with LTE signal on the top-right. I know Giffgaff have upgraded everyone to 4G goodybags, but as far as I knew O2's 4G spectrum is not supported on the OPO. Does anyone know any different? My girlfriend (also on Giffgaff) was gloating away that her S5 mini now gets 4G :(:p

That should be impossible, the OPO has a hardware limitation that prevents band 20 from working. Are you sure you didn't imagine the LTE sign? Or did O2 somehow manage to get band 3/7 secretly :p?

lol I guess it's just wishful thinking.. My work phone has just ben moved to a 4g plan so I now see that icon on that one.. I swear I saw it on my OPO though!

Don't worry about it, 4G on giffgaff is worthless.

o2 has been rolling out 4G on the 1800Mhz band in some areas which is possibly why you managed to get 4G on the train because you went past an o2 mast which was one of those that had been upgraded to provide 4G over the 1800Mhz band.

O2 managed to acquire some band 3? Are they refarrming some from 2G like EE did?

EDIT: Oh wow they are refarming, this is great news! This will help with congestion in cities but their backbone network still needs a massive improvement. In theory it should also mean I should see LTE more often, I notice during peak times I get kicked off to 3G which honestly is painful to use.

I knew I wasn't going mad!

Right outside my work. I might run outside and do a speedtest... what's the best mobile one?
