Nvidia to discontinue GTX960 2GB and replace it with 4GB version

lol no if true there will just be no cheap 960's
as some1 said id like to see a 960ti
there's a pretty big gap in performance between a 960 & 970
or maybe next gen just needs to hurry up

If anything, the introduction of the 4GB is more for the purpose of justifying bumping the price of 960, rather than out of actual need. The 960 sell well because there are people who would only use Nvidia, and it is at the sub £200 sweetspot. By increasing the vram to 4GB, it give them a simply excuse to bump the pricing.
Depends on what it's based on.
2gb vram card these days, or even a year or two ago is stupid so why they released it in the first place is beyond me.
Maybe they have realised the error of their ways due to lacking sales and decided to call it quits? If so good move as they would be setting unachievable expectations otherwise.

I own a couple of 2gb GTX 960s but have never used them @1080p.
I used them @2160p.
And what were the results at 2160p?
960 is grand for gaming, drop some settings. Heck every fps player i know wther running a single high end card or sli/xfire drop settings to the lowest. Works a treat in bf3/4. Yes they look nice when maxed, but too cluttered for competitive playing online.
Playable if you turn the settings down.
If people say that 2gb is not enough for 2160p, it is only a valid argument if they are using TitanXs as every other card will run out of VRAM @2160p.
Having said that GTX 960s are not serious 4K cards but are fine @1080p, unfortunately I don't have a 1080p monitor.

Regarding the original titans, a nephew of mine is a comp science student at uni in belfast. Thats what they use for gpu's in the lab machines. Cpu's are a mix of 3770k and 4770k's. They game on them in their spare time. Old titan is a versatile bit o kit.

In that case, sli 770's are a decent bit of kit when it comes to low settings at 4k on certain games.
I agree with kaap though but rbh....1080p is closely getting to the point where 2gb is not an option for good graphics.
Right now I can run gtaV with everything at max aside from msaa/reflection msaa & the specific advanced graphics but that is on sli 770 4gb cards at 1080p. 1440p with a few bits and pieces turned down. I don't think a 960 could match that at all due to bottlenecking at least
Tbh guys im sitting here posting on a pretty old i7 930 rig with a gtx 650ti. The spec in sig is a recent purchase which needs windows reinstalled to work properly. I played a few games on this old setup earlier and enjoyed it pretty much the same as i did on my 4790k setup which used to be my main system. Some users get hung up too much on how a game looks/runs and forget about how it plays, aka the enjoyment you get out of it. Which tbh for me is what games are about.
As much as I respect that, Setter, aesthetics are a massive part of a game to me. A game with bad anti aliasing for example is going to probably put me off playing, I hate jagged edges.
So, whilst the gameplay may be important, visuals are the reason I bought a £500 graphics card and a £600 monitor, not the gameplay - The gameplay is what I buy the game for.

I like a game to look good to Joe in certain scenarios. Now tbh i only briefly used the 980ti on my old 4790k rig, (selling it now). Ive yet to use the 5820k despite owning it for several weeks now. I play a fair bit of bf4 and the haswell setup handled it with ease. But im yet to try it on the new kit. But for fast paced fps games, lowering settings can indeed help a lot. A new monitor will be my next purchase, preferably a gsync enabled one. Sure im tied to nvidia cards. But as thats all ive ever owned im not too fussed on that. Not that im a big nvidia fan boy/defender. Im used to their cards and just tend to stick with what i know. Heck after buying an msi mobo after being so used to asus i get sleep tremors due to unfamiliarity.
