Which has no reason to be spying on innocent people. It might not seem a major thing now but it will be soon. Soon when you will have little to no rights at all.

Well that's far off yet, since not everyone has the same thinking.

EDIT: To be clear, the claim is that Facebook is listening to your real life conversations you have when near your phone.

Might also explain why people feel Facebook drains their battery so much...

Hopefully the truth can be figured out, or at least if this seems suspicious someone like Apple can take a look at the app and see if they are doing anything they shouldn't be. People think this violates the App store policy (although I haven't checked that myself).

I'll make this bold because I'm not sure people are getting the point and are discussing a non related topic.

The claims are that the Facebook app is using your microphone in the background to listen to your real life conversations and target ads to you without us being aware it's happening.

I am fully aware that they will mine your typed chat conversations and wall posts for key phrases, but this is something else if true.

Implies to me that you are saying that we shouldn't post personal things on facebook because they will then get this written text as data to monkey about with, when this whole thread is about them listening to spoken conversations covertly.
 
The facebook app is what happens to 4 out of my 5 days battery life until i remember to perform every kind of nuking from orbit android can provide.

In other news the website is horrible too, the day i deleted my account was probably the wisest move i've made in a long time.
