One step closer to war with Russia?

Can't see the problem. I'd expect the RAF to shoot down aircraft of any nationality that attacks them, be that friend or foe.

RAF fighter pilots have been given the all clear SHOOT DOWN Russian planes if they come under attack while carrying out missions over Iraq.

Or did you miss that caveat?

If it wasn't the express I might be worried.

Air rules are pretty stringent and surprisingly so - an unidentified aircraft in another countries airspace that doesn't respond to challenges and remotely close to anything sensitive (military or civilian) the intercepting pilots will have permission to shoot it down.

It's not that I don't expect the RAF to defend themselves or that I think they're particularly out matched by Russian fighters but this could potentially lead to WW3.

Don't even care any more tbh...

If it happens it happens.

Most media lies and twists the truth to sell papers. Google fear based media.

I'm sick of hearing it. And i'm sick of the **** heads who keep spreading ********.

As opposed to not defending themselves if fired upon by another country's aircraft? According to this story they aren't being given permission to fire first.

Surely thats standard rules of engagement? You're allowed to shoot back.

Wouldn't be surprised if the russians are being given the same standing orders.

Fingers crossed we're mature enough as nations these days not to hit the big red armageddon button at the first sight of a small skirmish

I would have been surprised if they weren't able to act in self defence anyway!

yup, tis standard that rules of engagement will also state somewhere than none of the listed rules override your inherent right to self defence

maybe they weren't kitted out with air to air missiles previously though?

I'm rather partial to the picture they decided to use

If there is some kind of story in the article it is that Russian aircraft are being seen as possible enemies rather than allies in the situation.

Lets hope there are no so-called friendly (which would now be seen as unfriendly) fire situations that arise.

Even if a few jets did get shot down, the chances of it leading to anything other than a diplomatic incident are pretty low.

It's Syria; I don't think either side wants to bring about WW3 over Syria.

You know what i hate our media it's so manipulative and people for some reason believe it all because it's in the news paper so it must be real. And when it has some form of truth in between the lines people only read the headline.

And frankly i feel for Vladimir Putin. It's America who are being the aggressors pushing in towards his land. Breaking treatys ect ect
