Do you Hire cleaners?

I've always been tempted by it, but scaling it up across the year it feels like money that could be better spent elsewhere.

There's a real risk that I'd just spend the gained time vegging out on the sofa, so I'm probably better off getting the exercise.

Yes have a cleaner. Took a few attempts to find one who's happy working in the later part of the monday (>=15:00) so I can be home when she works, but finally we found a local woman who's perfect as she lives 2 streets down, is English (nothing against other nationality, but we had a couple who didn't understand the instructions, or couldnt read english, thats a bit of a bummer).

We pay £18 for 2 hours a week -- ultimately thats the price of a curry out per month to get a spotless house, including removing the limescale in bathrooms etc -- definitely worth it!

As far as trust goes, we don't totally trust her just yet, that's why I try to be around when she comes for the moment, I think that in a few weeks when I trust her not to ruin my guitars or sort out my desk, I'll let go of that.

How do you know he's getting a student loan? Also it's still a better use than peeing it up the wall like your usual student.

Because he has stated it previously. He has also said he is retired and has stated that he never intends to earn above the threshold and knowingly took advantage of the loans offered him (while taking high minded positions on any number of other issues). That's how.
Stated? Gloated more like.

Havern't used any of my student loan to pay for a cleaner, not that it's any of your business.

My cleaner was well known to me previously.

Nice edit ('my wife works ;)').

What we choose to spew on the internet becomes everyone's business.

Anyway, back on topic. Has anyone else had cleaners sack them? I've had one claim she couldn't work my area any more only to take a client on the same day of the week on my road! I am untidy (not unclean) and some cleaners get irritated with my clutter.

We have a cleaner who does 4 hours a week for us. She cleans, polishes, washes the floors and does some ironing as well. She does a great job and frees us up our time.

Same.

Hi i saw a similar discussion somewhere about hiring cleaners and i was wondering if anyone here does it and why?

For me i dont and never have because i was brought up to clean my own place so to speak.

Yes its cheap to hire someone and saves you 2-3 hours of doing it per week but are people really that busy to cant spend 2-3hours a week cleaning there flat/house?

Are people just lazy? Or are people just too busy that they cant even spare 2-3hours?

Thoughts?

It's a stupid argument. I could knit my own clothes from my own sheep with wool spun from my own spinning wheel. I don't because I'm lazy/too busy?

My time is better placed elsewhere like with my kids.

WHAT ABOUT gardening? gardening can be just as tedious but less people seem to be into getting someone to do that?

You reckon?

There are about 5 full time gardeners in my village and they're worked off their feet. Lots of quite big gardens in the area, which might have something to do with that (mine is approx 1/8th of an acre and is no more than average).

We don't use a gardener, but I can see why older people in particular would. And our garden is a bit unkempt.

It's easier not to bother with a garden though.

Your house is ideally nice all year round, as you have to use it every day. A garden is far easier to forget about for 10 months of the year, and then people will enjoy faffing around with it for a few weeks, before forgetting about it again.

We have the following:
Cleaner who we pay £20 for two hours a week.
Gardener who comes for four hours a month and we pay him £10 an hour.
Dog Sitter/Walker who comes for six half hour visits a week, we pay him £36 a week.
Window Cleaner comes once a month, £12 for the whole house.
Car Cleaner comes every two weeks, £15 for two cars.

Main reason for using people is that we value our free time more than we value having even more spare money. It does add up but we are not into drinking/smoking/drugs so I don't think it's too bad. Is it lazy? Probably.

I spend about 3-4 hours cleaning my apartment every Saturday.

I like the idea of hiring a cleaner/agency but I think trust would be my main issue.
