Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a new keyboard - choosing between the Razer Chroma or the Corsair K70...

however, it's mostly just for general use (I like the look of the keyboards though). Which would you recommend for day to day typing use?

Tom

I had both and currently using the blackwidow chroma.

There both perfect tbh.

The k70 leds show though a bit more as the keys are raised.

Never had an issue with either just go with which you prefer the look of.

I'd rec the Razer.

I'm using the razer blackwidow I think.
3 years old now and still feels like new. No sign of wear at all, which is amazing for a KB. Feels great to type on. (Cherry MX brown). And I've spilled a glass of water on the whole thing before, and didn't break.

Just my experience with razer. Have not tried any corsair peripherals to comment on those.

Well just had an email from the guy i sold the corsair to asking for a receipt to help with rma-ing it.

Would deffo go with the razer lol.

Over those two i'd recommend the Corsair since iirc they actually use authentic cherry switches over Razer's own manufactured switches.

Though, i'd recommend other mech companies such as Ducky, Filco, Das Keyboard, KBT, etc over either of those any day of the week.

I own the razer, not chroma but last year's blackwidow TE with exactly the same switches.

The build quality of the board itself is great, I like the matt/rubbery coating and the fact it plays nice with my other razer gear over synapse, the braided cable it comes with (detachable on the TE) is brill but the kailh switches just aren't as good as cherry MX, it's as simple as that.

Go for the corsair, or a board with proper cherry switches as they'll last for much longer and it'll have more resale value.

This. Love my razer blackwidow!

Out of those two, I'd go with the Corsair K70 - Raised keys on a solid metal backplate is great. Having the keys (and switches) above a solid, straight piece of metal may not sound like much, until you have to clean it. It also comes with a volume wheel which I wish more keyboards came with - Using FN + F11/F12 just isn't as natural in my opinion.

I've had a Blackwidow (2012? Whatever iteration was the one before they switched to their own keys), Corsair K70 RGB and now I use a DAS Keyboard Ultimate 4. I'd still be using a K70 if it was possible to get the RGB one with Blue switches, however the DAS is an awesome plug in and play option if you don't need the 'gaming orientated features' that the aforementioned keyboards come with. - You could probably get a discount if you ask Rjk nicely too :)

I currently have a Ducky Shine 3 with Cherry Reds.

I know it's not in your choices but you can't go wrong with one. Nice and subtle whilst feeling built like a tank. Perfect, imo.

I am starting to look for a new keyboard as well and am swinging towards the K70 - the price though will be painful, £154 - ouch!

I wouldn't pay £35 for the RGB to be honest, as 'cool' as it was to have if you are worried about the price I'd just get the red/blue LED version. RGB becomes less fun and more of a gimmick after a couple of days and you stop noticing it thereafter.

I agree with your logic but it would be nice if I could have green LEDs to match my Naga mouse but not at that price premium.
