Alex Salmond: A second Scottish referendum is inevitible

I had to pay for a single pint once with a £100 note. Didn't have any other money on me and the bank machine was oos.

Luckily the bar owner knew I was a flash **** and took it.

Just clocked this on FB and had a wee giggle to myself.

My guess is this will be the new percentage of Yes voters required for independence at the next referendum. If it's good enough for our childrens education...

You obviously didn't because everything you stated in response to my original post was already stated in the article in the Guardian.

The difference is that if it was the Tories selling private contracts, it would be called privatising via the back door by the SNP

The government are obliged to put the contract out to private tender under EU law. They have no say in the matter!

Sure, they have to put it out to tender. But surely they have the ultimate decision on who they award the contract to?

And if they didn't give it to the most competitive tender then they'd be accused of cronyism or wasting tax-payers money on protectionism. Whatever the SNP do both the media and opposition parties will have a list of gripes and complaints.

Same as any other party. Why should the SNP then be special and not be criticised for it then? Tories do it, and they are lambasted for it by most on the left. The SNP do it, and it's okay then?

I have never criticised the Torys for doing something that they are obliged to do by law. That would be silly.

I don't think anyone is saying you are coming out with it but the SNP ran most of their campaign stating the Tory privatisation of the NHS for instance.

As said, the tender doesn't have to be accepted, after all Labour has said they will bring the railways back into government hands and not renew contracts when they are over.

Yeah keep voting until the minority turn into the majority. Arguably no one south of the border without a vested interest in Scottish business actually gives a ****. For me I'm happy to keep Scotland stuck under the power of Westminster purely because is aggravates them so much, other than that I'd prefer they were long gone provided we have a PM who's willing to keep our Oil, Welfare and Currency away from them should they secede.

The point was that Mr. Lovelyhead made a point about the SNP winning every byelection. That run has ended. Hopefully for good IMO.

I am quite sure I have never stated the SNP will win every election. I just make a point of annoying you lot by posting every victory! :D

I can't say I am all that bothered about the SNP losing a council seat by only 29 votes on first preferences whilst at the same time increasing their share of the vote by 4.6%.

That is clearly a troll post trying to get me to take the bait isn't it! :D

Never

In all seriousness though, I don't understand how there can be an argument for another referendum just because the last one failed. We'll vote on leaving the EU within the next 26 months (apparently) and I won't demand a re-vote should we not acheive a Brexit.

The more Sturgeon harps on about the referendum the more it makes her sound desperate to find something to be remembered by.

But why not? If it turns out there is a large percentage of the population that wants to leave but not quite enough, and it is something you strongly believe in, why would you give up? Why wouldn't you keep voting for the party that agrees with your political viewpoint? Why wouldn't you continue trying to convince people that it is the right thing to do? If you can convince enough people that it is the way to go and you think you have enough people to get you over the line then why shouldn't you have another crack at it?

Now come on. That is a bit silly no? She is the leader of the Scottish National Party. Their main goal is Scottish Independence. Of course she is going to "harp on about it".
