Ok so my Insignia (2012 SRi NAV BiTurbo 195ps) needs new front discs and pads. My dad fitted the last lot for me, sadly this is not possible. Now I didn't even buy the last set he just done it all for me. Car's are his thing, pc's are mine.

Local dealer (with a lot of discounts apparently) £249 fitted. Genuine Vauxhall parts.

So checked a few local parts places and got the following prices and brands
bosch £51 discs £45 pads
eicher £30 discs £43 pads
pagid £37 dics £26 pads

Guy in there showed me the Bosch set, all vented. My current Vauxhall ones are solid.

Basically I can't justify £60 - £100 for vauxhall fitted/labour so will have a go myself. Are vented worth the extra cost?

I've not seen a car for the last 15 years with solid front discs... Do you mean they were drilled and/or grooved? like this

Rather than like this?

If so i'd go for the plain discs on a normal road car.

Just got a quote for Pagid, for them to fit them too, £174....

And they looked like the second picture. But on the box they said vented, the other ones said solid. Was only a couple of quid price difference.

Think I need to go back to the shop and ask to see the solid!

Great set up if you want to replace pads every 6 months.

Unless I was seriously thrashing the car I would not bother

Eicher is horribly nasty cheap tat.

Pagid is slightly better but still nasty.

No experience of Bosch brakes, didnt know they made them.

I would recommend Ferodo brakes, top quality.

Really? Pagid/Textar make many OEM branded brakes just like Ferodo.

Eicher are a brand imported by ECP from Eicher Industries in India.
I would only use them on an Indian car such as Tata.
Tmd friction supply ecp for their eicher brand. Eicher is a budget product, think of it as asda value mince it's... Well not going to be amazing is it.

I could be wrong, ecp might be putting tmd friction anti tamper stickers on eicher boxes.

Purchased Pagid brakes on my Astra, but fitted myself. Was sceptical also after never hearing of them but appear to be good quality, good value and perform well, no complaints from me.

If you buy from ECP, there's usually a discount code if you look hard enough too.

Originally a German tractor company who no longer exists in Germany but they were made under license in India.
Now Eicher in India own the brand and have grown a large portfolio of industries.
But as you say, last year ECP have UK rights to Eicher and they are made by TMD.

I've fitted Pagid pads (from ECP) on my dads car twice and they lasted ~8000miles each time, they dont wear very well, stuck some Blueprint pads this time as apparently its OEM to that car, so will see how they perform.

I have a distrust of ECP too, some of the branded stuff they sell seem to be cheaper equivalents, they have been caught in the past selling counterfeit goods, so who knows where they are from.

I thought they got cought displaying merc replica wheels with badges.
I say display as I was told they were reps and that they also sell the badges when I asked

Pagids seem decent in my experience, bought a set for my MK3 Mondeo & they are silent, seem to be wearing well and I've also noticed that the discs still look new even a year later, no rust on the surfaces which don't contact the pads.
