Hey
so am happy owner of Dell's 34" ultra wide.
screen is brilliant
as much I knew that I might get some back bleed, I wasn't expecting as much...

its bottom left corner that I am concerned about
as you can see, its quite bad...maybe image makes it look worse then it is but it is just bad ;D

shall I ask retailer to get a swap, or will Dell cover that on warranty ?
anyone replaced screen based on back bleed?

Thanks

Hi bastic, I'm in the same boat.

I love my 3415w (had it around 2 weeks), but the bleed is very similar to yours. I actually just bought the samsung S34E790C to compare - and although it had zero bleed, the picture just wasn't as good to my eyes (sharpness and uniformity were the big issues for me). I did spend a lot of time calibrating too.

So I'm sending the Sammie back, but not sure whether to try a replacement on the Dell yet or not - I think they are all pretty similar :(

I'm interested to see how much bleed people get on the same LG panel in the Acer x34 over the next few days. Not sure I want to spend another £300 for Gsync, but if there is reduced bleed it would be more attractive - except in appearance, that bezel is sinful!

You're paying for the extra 40Hz refresh rate too. According to the LG rep on this forum they said the panel has been "fixed on a factory level", so I'm also very interested.

If Dell's express warranty is available in the UK, you could enquire about it. Best thing about it? You get a couple of days with two U3415Ws :p

That looks like IPS glow, pretty bad though and I wouldn't be happy with that.
Yes, could technically be glow, but it's so bad it's bleeding annoying :D

Yes sure, 100hz would be nice. I've only used higher than 60hz on the good ol' CRT days - is it noticeable in windows?

Will be interesting to see some user reviews indeed.

I checked my current warranty on the Dell and it says Next Business Day, I'm not sure if this means I get to swap over at the door or I have to send the monitor back first?

Spoke to retailer and as they have no stock I would get only a refund, so would end up with no screen for a while again which is not on...
Will try to call Dell any day and try to resolve that with them.
They have good warranty but not sure if it covers back bleed...

they come to your place next day with replacement panel :)
used them once in the past with my 24".

Thanks bastic, let me know what you find with Dell!

Funny enough I have been retesting my BLB/Glow, and it does seem to have improved for me quite a bit - still very much there but not as bad as I first remember. This is since installing Dell Display Monitor, and calibrating the monitor a number of times. Currently at 75 contrast, 34 brightness for 120cd/m brightness. I used a ColorMunki and Dispcalgui.

Here's what mine looks like in a dark room - I adjusted my camera's shutter speed so it looks as close to what it looks like for me as possible.

It could be as bad as yours depending on exposure - but I do know it looks better than it did before I did the above.

okay,
finally managed to get time to call dell support
only took 40mins on the phone - scared to look on mobile bill now...
will get a replacement panel. need to wait for confirmation on to when I will get it.
hopefully it wont be long.
I think if it would be major fault and screen would not be usable, I would get a replacement next day.
will you updated :)

I watched a video of another guy with this monitor, he also claimed he was able to noticeably improve glow / bleed using the calibration tools in DDM.

That picture of your screen looks quite reasonable to me, I'd keep it in that state.

will get a new screen tomorrow as UPS has a parcel for me ;)
I think it is a replacement screen...
so for a while will be in possession of 2x34" ;D
if only I would have desk big enough ;)

It looks a bit worse in some circumstances, but yes - it's not too bad and a lot better than when I first assessed it. Definitely going to keep it, I really am loving the screen!

Rather hilariously, the game I have played most on it is Red Alert 2 (cos of the free offer on Origin). It's still a great game and being able to see nearly the whole width of the map on a lot of missions gives the game a completely new armchair general feel.

Interested to hear how it compares bastic. Feel free to compare with me in terms of Dell Display monitor/monitor settings too - mine definitely got better after using these further.

I'm definitely keeping the Dell now, but if you get an item with really low bleed I could be tempted to swap for another. :)

Wow, that looks great. RA2 is one of my favorite RTS games, I had no idea you could get it to support that resolution.

Have you tried any fast paced games? Is the response time / motion blur tolerable?

It really is great (and yes, still an awesome RTS!) You have to add this to your RA.ini after running the game once:

VideoBackBuffer=no
ScreenWidth=3440
ScreenHeight=1440

The first line stops it lagging like crazy.

The videos still play in 640x480 though, which is quite funny to see. Ah, that was once a dream resolution. You also get a few weird scrolling issues on maps smaller than 3440 pixels, but nothing game breaking.

Game is kinda easy on hard with this resolution though! I used mass harriers to win most levels, becomes really easy to control lots of control groups.

I've played SW Battlefront and Witcher 3, they look perfect to me, but I came from an IPS as opposed to anything faster. But I don't notice any issues with movement.

when you go down to 120, dont whites look grey for you ?
they do to me...

They look completely white to me, but could appear grey if you are used to higher brightness? I find any higher brightness is tiring for my eyes.

It could also be your white balance too, I didn't figure it out yet - but even though I targeted 6500k calibration I ended up with 6700k. Plus RGB wasn't perfect despite being factory calibrated (mine needed to be 99/97/99 RGB).

I've tried to calibrate with spyder3 pro.
All colours looked too warm so went back to normal.
Can you change color temp on it ? Couldn't find it on mine ...
