Looking for a card for my console killer itx build, and was hoping someone could give me some guidance.
Deciding between the gtx 960 and the r9 380.

-Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts between the two.

-Im unfamiliar with AMD is there one manufacturer that is superior to another, I can't see much difference between sapphire, MSI, powercolor etc.

-I believe the 380x is releasing at the end of the month so wondering if I should hold out for him?

380 is the winner in MOST cases, regardless of resolution, depending on what game you are playing. The temperatures are about the same, price is a bit higher on the 960 for the better cards, and for AMD its generally Sapphire that is the best and Nvidia is generally EVGA, cooling wise in terms of sound and performance.

Cant understand why its so cheap from OC, just checked on video benchamarks and it blows the 380 out the water for a similar price.

The only problem is that with Pascal being launched in a year it will make the GTX780 two generations old,so even though I am tempted too,I might wait longer to replace my GTX780.

Sorry to deviate from original topic, but with regards to a matching CPU, would an i3 start to bottleneck a 780? Just because im on a limited budget and am trying to decide between an i3 and and i5 vs putting the extra into a good gpu

I can't comment on unreleased products, but this R9 380 has an excellent cooler and is well priced for the level of performance it offers. It will be a match performance wise, with your i3 CPU which will bottleneck faster Graphics Cards.

I still cannot shake the feeling that the 780 may actually do Asynchrounous compute better than 970/980.

Increasing efficiency and performance at the same time (while still stuck on the same 28nm process) just seem too good to be true (like on diesel cars), as it is usually the case of one goes up, the other goes down. So one cannot help but wonder what unknown sacrifice has been made for the mid-range Maxwell.

I don't know how good ASync is on the 780 but i do know it is lacking on the 970, its capable of it but its not very good, to put it politely.

This is why i was leaning toward the 380, but if I can get a significant increase in power from the 780 for a small £30 difference, would that not be worth it.

Budget wise I can probably go either: 780 + i3 or 380 + i5
Would the 380 be better with and i3?
