I own a Mondeo ST220
tyre size = 225/40/18

Researched prices from various places and come up with the list below.
I have always used Michelin pilot sports and goodyear eagle F1 in the past but am I missing a trick somewhere ?

Is there a tyre I haven't listed that I should consider ?
Is there another supplier that can do a better price that I haven't considered ?

Falkens m8, they're all the tyre you'd ever need.

Seriously though, go for the Conti SC5s.

PS3 isn't even remotely crap. It's performance is pretty much the same as the CS5 / AS2F1

Have to disagree there.

AS2F1 was a much noticeable improvement on the fronts when I had my Type R compared to the PS3.

I only went for the PS3 as I was desperate and they didn't have PS2s or AS2F1s at the time.

In which way was it 'much noticeable'?

Were you comparing a worn PS3 to a new AS2F1?

When I go from an old PS3 to a new PS3, they always feel 'noticeably better'.

Grip off the line, wet grip overall, far less road noise.

I'd get more VSA (ESP) kicking in on my Civic with the PS3s compared to the AS2F1s too, so it was fairly obvious.

No, they were new PS3s and new AS2F1s (yes I did let them scrub in :p )

I wouldn't say they were "crap" though, just that imo the AS2F1s were noticeably better than the PS3s.

I just find the differing views interesting as there seems to be a lot of PS3 hate on OcUK when in almost every review it scores similarly (sometimes better or worse) than the AS2F1s.

I'm not sure what power you were running on the Type R, but if the tarmac is warm I cannot get the PS3s to spin up (approaching high up the rev range in 1st, not just dumping the clutch on the spot).

I have an A3 2.0TFSI with that tyre size - no issues since changing to PS3's (Coming from Pirelli PZero Rossos) - seem grippier, wet weather performance is much better.

Pzero Rossos were okay until you got down to about 3.5mm, and then particularly wet performance went off a cliff - was literally like driving on ice even on just a damp road.

Not tried Conti's on my current car, but from experience with other cars (Mini Cooper S, Audi A4 [B5]), Contis are probably the grippiest tyres, but seem to wear unacceptably fast.

It's not but neither is it supposed to be. Michelin shook up the naming convention when it was released - despite it's name it was the replacement for the Pilot Exalto not the Pilot Sport 2. The Pilot Super Sport is the Michelin UHP tyre.

Are you limited to just what's on that list as Uniroyal Rainsport 3's come in the size your after and are cheaper than anything on your list.

And are not in the same performance league as most of that list either so why bother if he's happy with the pricepoint of the listed tyres? Almost all of them are materially better tyres than the current cheap internet hero tyre which seems to be the Uniroyal this year just like it was the Falken's before that..

wear is a big consideration for me as I do about 18k per year.

Interesting comments about the Goodyear vs the pilotsport 3, because when I changed my fronts from worn out pilotsport 3 to goodyear EF1AS i was getting similar issues setting off from certain junctions would give me a slight loss of grip where the pilotsport didn't.

I'd go the AS2F1.
I have SC5's all round but found the wear rate was pretty high - got through them pretty quickly.
The AS2F1 however have lasted a lot longer, still have plenty of meat on them and are offering, to me, easily the same kind of performance and grip.

I have the F1AS2 and in terms of grip they are absolutely fabulous, I have virtually zero traction issues despite 540nm of torque. I've used them for years and years and was pretty much a fully paid up Eagle F1 fanboy.

Sadly though this current set has the most annoying droning noise I have ever experienced and despite how amazingly well they perform I simply cannot wait to wear them out and try some Conti's :(

For pure performance the Eagle F1s were the best I tried on my Focus ST225, but they didn't last long and got very noisy when worn down.

I started using much cheaper Toyo T1-Rs after them and tbh they were pretty good for the price. They also lasted longer. Wet grip wasn't nearly as good though (but still good enough).

Id be going with RS3's, sue the same size on my Mazda 6 adn very happy with them :)

Altho my current car has eagles on from when I bought them I wouldn't go anywhere near them as I've seen michelins shoddy customer service cost a chap on the mazda forum 5 tyres

tyreleader is the place I normally use

Yet the majority of the reviews rate the PS3 as pretty much on par in both wet and dry to the F1AS2.
