MSI R9 290X too hot ?

Average temps on my MSI 290 is about 66-68, max temp is around 72 with a max fan speed of 49% although my 290 is undervolted to -37mv and this is with everything on low/off except mesh set to ultra with a constant 125FPS

Temps do rise a bit higher with 2 monitors

Perfectly normal temps, certainly lower than various reference design cards.

If you wish to bring temps down a little, try undervolting the card a little using MSI Afterburner. Start off with -25mv and move down until you experience instability, 2D desktop flickering or black screens. If you get any of those, back off 0.006-0.012v and you'll be golden. Good samples will under volt to -0.050v or more, but you should be relatively safe with -25mv. Make sure your memory is running at 1250MHZ before you attempt this. :)
 
Those MSI 290/X run hot, the cooler is a bit rubbish even with a thermal paste change. Used to see 85c on my one quite often, hence swap to Nvidia, can't stand high temps even if it's acceptable.
