Turkey have shot down a plane / drone over their airspace

Was it one of these?

I suspect if it was a manned aircraft they may have just protested again, but as it's a drone they may have decided to make the point about the integrity of their airspace with regards to military aircraft without risking killing a pilot.

I see it was shot down after it ignored three warnings. How do you give a drone a warning?

I'm guessing the same way you give warnings to manned aircraft - the operators will have to have radio contact to help avoid things like mid air collisions.

So send the warnings on the ATC frequencies, and possibly the emergency/guard frequencies.
If you are running any aircraft over a (very small) size regardless of if it's a manned or unmanned you're meant to be paying attention to those.

Typical. Independent use 'aircraft' on the headline and quickly switch to drone when you click on the story.

Just out of interest, is there a set language for this like English? Or would the warnings by in Turkish?
