Slim fit shirts for work - what to get

I like the H&C shirts, but they do very few non-iron shirts compared to TM Lewin. Mostly used to using non-iron, I can't be bothered with ironing shirts these days.

CT shirts are great, but I did get a little boost when I thought I was a slim fit lol

Turns out slim fit isn't really slim, it's just normal. I've actually bought a few of their extra slim casual shirts today. Hope they fit well :-)

I'm also very square, and not a big tum, and I HATE having to buy XXL shirts that will bag up in the trousers. The one that suits be best are Burburry Oxford ones -- but they are very pricey for every day use (140 quid)

However, recently I decided to see if my Trusted Chinese Friends have cheap alternatives, and, they DO.

I ordered two of these, I compared the size and they are an /exact/ match for the Burbury ones. So if the cotton is 'good enough' and the cut is the same (it looks like it) I might have a winner here :-)

Might be worth spending some time and buying a few -- at that price it's no real problem to order 5 and see which ones are best.

Can I just say you guys are all mental. Slight rant as I need to buy a new smart white shirt for a wedding (yes, I never wear suits..) but having gone off to Westfield with a skip in my step due to the handy advice in this thread.. well it was a massive fail.

I went straight to TM Lewin.. waaaay too baggy! :( I'm 5'10, collar 15" but their slim fit was baggy as hell around my front but it was also hanging off my shoulders. Same story in the few I tried on in M&S.. same story in H&C. Although better around the front. Admittedly I've got small-ish shoulders but christ I'm not that bad. They looked like they were all made for carpet-carriers that spend 5 days a week in the gym (don't we all...).

Any suggestions? There's a CT near my work so I will be trying them..

Why didn't you try the fitted or super fitted then? Those are like slim but less material around the chest and sleeves.

It goes Regular > Slim > Fitted > Super Fitted (I think)

To be honest I can't remember which I tried, but the guy told me it was the slimmest fit they had

Ha, well I weigh under 70kg so no I'm not big. I've always been a slim build and even though I eat like a horse I rarely put on weight. Slightly annoying considering I've been swimming 2-3 times a week for the last few months. Thought I was building up a bit more of a 'v' shape but clearly it's all in my imagination!

You've put doubt in my mind now though, there is a TML near my work as well so I will pop back in when I'm back from my hols and make sure I'm not going mad. I don't think I am though, as the H&C slimmest fit was quite good around my stomach/chest/back and had a nice shape to it, it was just too wide on the shoulders.

Yes, worth asking if they have Super Fitted in TML because shops normally have less of a selection and they might have just given you Fitted. If Super Fitted is good then I would buy them online as there is more selection. Failing that an online tailor might be the best bet.

Also definitely check your collar size assumption is correct. It should be very snug I think.

You have the same problem as me.

I'm a 38" chest (5'11", 76kg), but a 16" neck :(

So extra slim 15" shirts fit my body perfectly, but I cannot do up the collar, and shirts I can, hang off me due to the extra inches.

I've had the same prob as some of you guys in this thread and went to TML at lunch today. The super fitted shirts are perfect for me around the waist, but I can't button them up around the chest. The standard fitted shirt is fine around the chest but too baggy below. The girl in the shop suggested I get a fitted shirt that they could then adjust to make the bottom half basically super fitted. Has anyone done this? All in all it's going to cost around £50 per shirt!

We're all carpet carriers with imaginary lat syndrome on this forum, did no one tell you? :p

CT are my favourite for style and fit. I have quite a selection of CT/Ralph Lauren and a few other posh ones these days, about 75% of which are from charity shops at ~£3 a pop. Come at me bargains.

I'm the same weight and height as you.

Admittedly some of my shirts are a few years old now so they have changed their naming convention but the 15" 34cm "fully fitted" (now "super fitted", not slim fit) shirts fit fine for me. The John Francomb range is the best. No other shirts at this price range (and often much higher) fit as nicely. Perhaps you have different proportions/shoulder width, I guess they can't cater for everyone.

Thanks chaps. Had another browse around town and the TML super fitted seems good at 15" collar. I don't think I tried on the super fitted the fisrt time (stupid member of staff  ).

I'm about to order my backup plain white shirt online with the discounts (the wedding is next weekend), but I was wondering if anyone knew where's good for some nice paisley/floral numbers. We saw a few Simon Carter ones for example, but they're very pricey... Thanks!

Take a look at 1LikeNoOther signature shirts for floral prints. A bit pricey too though. However they do have some shirts in their sale.

Try YSL or FCUK shirts (Moss Bros), they have very slim shoulders. They are regularly on sale for something like 3 for £100.

Anyone had issues with TML sizings not being consistent? I tried on a 15/33 in the store which was great. So I ordered one in white and tried it on last night. I can barely do the collar up :( Quite annoyed.. I'm going to the wedding on Saturday and am running out of time. Taking it to store at lunch today to see what they say.. They didn't seem to stock much super-fitted though which is worrying..
