I am looking at getting a 4k monitor and as such need to update my aging water-cooled 6970 CF setup.

I know I won't be able to max current games at 4k with any of these options but want a setup that can run e.g. SW Battlefront, P Cars, Batman, AC at 4k with combination of high/ultra settings @ 60fps so looking for feedback from anyone who games at 4k with any of these cards.

I suspect the 980Ti is the better option as offers more overclocking potential when on water so even though the Fury X may be better at 4k for SW Battlefront in benchmarks the 980Ti may edge when both cards are overclocked.

The 2500k is at 4.6ghz and I have a 1000 W power supply.

One cards always better than 2 however what was your experience with crossfire like?

If it was good a pair of Fury x's would be a nice option but can't you hang on till mid next year? If you are planning on updating a water looped build which you'll then use for several years don't upgrade at the end of one nm cycle do so at the start of the next. That way you are getting cards that are designed for the DX12 revolution with adequate ram for 4k etc.

Thanks for the responses.

Generally its been a good experience with crossfire, but some games never seem to get proper support or sometimes experience small glitches which is why the 980Ti is the appealing option. I got the 6970s on a weekly deal so were really well priced compared to the Nvidia card at the time and have lasted well.

Pascal might be worth waiting for but I could be waiting a year and the 980Ti offers a good upgrade over my current cards today. If I was spending enough for dual Fury X I would definitely get dual 980Ti's due to the VRAM.

Especially with the great price of the Ti.
Get one now, then you can decide if you need more power or just keep it (without watercooling, maybe get an hybrid) until Pascal hits.

It's pointless to wait with an old setup when we are in one of the best years in videogame history.

Looking at getting the Samsung U28D590, I see varkanoid that's what you have...are you happy with it? What did you have before?

55fps with ultra settings sounds promising.
