Adaptive Smart Cruise Control

I have it on my 2011 Range Rover Sport, I really like it, excellent for motorway driving. I feel they rushed it though as it doesn't have a stop function, when you get before 21mph it deactivates and forces you to take over.

have it in my Golf R and has been really good on the Long motorway journey's combined with the DSG it can bring the car to a complete stop and start again without any intervention from me. It was strange at first thinking i must brake but after some time it has been super. for a standard feature on the car, i can't think of cruise control with out it anymore :)

That's an interesting thought. I wonder how long it will be until someone switches from adaptive cruise control to standard, and ploughs straight into the back of the car in front, oblivious to it not being radar guided.

Reminiscent of the old story about the American setting up the cruise control and having a nap.

I don't know why anyone would switch from adaptive to regular cruise so shouldn't be an issue. Plus the car will show whether ACC is active anyway. If they did end up doing what you said, then it's their fault.

Wow, genuinely amazed that had it. Impressive.

Now feeling seen off that my 5 Series of over a decade later hasn't got it :D
It's a shame that the majority of UK exec saloons are specified for style over substance. Makes finding a fully-loaded one a needle in a haystack.

How many E90s and E60s have you seen with ACC? :p

Exactly, car makers deliberately giving us cars which are less safe. Why should only the rich people who can tick the boxes be the ones with the safety gadgets :p Safety devices which can save lives should be standard.

I have seen a single E92 (335i) for sale with ACC, it was in SE spec with no leather, no sport options, no bling at all. Until that point I was convinced that the mention of it in the user manual was purely for other markets and that the UK never got it as an option lol.

Darwinism in full effect :)

Anyone try using ACC on very twisty country roads?

99% of the time it works fine, however i've had the odd occasion just before overtaking a cyclist and the car alerts me its about to slam on (even though i've left enough space to pass him).

Not sure why you would use ACC on twisty country roads, especially if the radar will keep losing track of the car in front if you are going round a bend.

Works fine, the car seems to know you have lost the car in front because you are turning, over the past 20k the car has never increased its speed to my set limit after following a car into a corner.

not sure if you mean ACC or the collision prevention system, but with the uncertainty of not knowing what is round a corner [oncoming traffic in middle of road] or changing conditions on a country road it's simply not a place I would consider using it.

some might see it as a perfect application of the ACC, I certainly don't. and I very much doubt the ACC would make any difference when you factor in the closing speed of oncoming traffic

country road I'd rather decide my own fate thanks and not be lazy and rely on an "assist system"
