Hi all,

I need to do a presentation on the following subject.."What would you do to develop ICT that would benefit students"

I have a few ideas already but I am interested in seeking others opinions on the subject and also any presentation tips to make me stand out?

I work in a school already so know my own infrastructure but in terms of what I have to speak about is the infrastructure is unknown.

I'll paypal a tenner to the person who's ideas I use.

Cheers

I worked in a college for nearly three years.. worst job EVER!!!

you can use that computer quiz system to ask the kids IT questions on how they thing work.. then explain how it really works.

Making sure teachers were actually up to date with technology and terminology.

I used to correct teachers a lot, both in high school and college, as a lot of the stuff they taught was out of date. It started off as feeling good for doing it, ended up being annoyed that they were't keeping current, and wondering what else I was being taught was also wrong.

We're implementing VDI as our systems are older and we need to be more flexible with IT these days. We're a sixth form college though, so not sure if that would make a difference.

This - especially in our Comp Sci department, they're so out of date - VB still being taught, Floppy Disks still part of the education etc.

What kind of school is this? Primary or Secondary?

If it's the higher age group, the cloud could be a good push.

I'm a NM in a college and recently have implemented Google Apps for all of the students. It's early days but so far it's been a big success. It's a solid platform. Great for collaboration, and as a bonus it eases the load on the IT infrastructure by removing the need of an on premise student file server, the students are basically in control of their own data.

Stupid question, but have you tried asking the students themselves? What works well and what could be better... since they're the ones who are using it? Might get some interesting results back. Most kids are pretty switched on these days.

Um, unless this is pre-school or something :p They'd probably just ask for more dinosaurs :p

If it's older children then I would have a section on how to look for hosting, how to engage a company to build a website for them and how to be clear in their own mind what that website should do.

A few children may go into IT as a career but a far greater number will go on to work in companies, or start companies themselves, what aren't directly IT but will need an online shop front.

Raspberry pis. Get some cross discipline electronics going on. You might consider getting office 365 so students have the same tools at home as at school.

Office365 definitely. Many kids don't have office resources, having access to them would enable them to become more proficient with the software helping them in their learning and in a future workplace :)

Move towards computer science utilizing Raspverry Pi's, Python etc.

Move over to cloud based services taking the strain from on-site physical and virtualised servers, thus reducing cost, possible downtime and responsibility. Definately move to O365 its a no brainer.

Say that you want to slowly intergrate and implement new tech, chromebooks and apps for instance, how about kindle fires £49 each with classic free of charge....give them to your LRC / Library.

How about buying some interactive projectors like the epson bright link? removes the need for renewing IWB's in the future?
