Behind you... Naked!
Im not asking about anything illegal here, so please dont go there.

My son is utterly killing my internet with his xbox, and every time he wants to play on it ( 24/7 ) he comes down and disables utorrent on my PC.

I have just been argueing with him and I said that I will do my torrents on his xbox just to annoy him.

Well, after a bit of banter, and a bit of a squeaky on the webernetz, I see that there may be something about it, and there is more about the 360 or the original xbox than the xbox one, but, can it be done? If so, can it be done legally and how?

I want to simply dump a load of Linux torrents into it, to seriously annoy him.

you need to have more of a parent relationship with your son, you sound like one of his mates. use QoS or limit your torrent speeds and stop pirating so much

Why don't you just run yours overnight, no need to have it running all the time.

I do run it overnight, but he comes down and switches it off.
And I dont have it running all the time, I dont have it running at all through the day.

I do have a great relationship with him, and yes, I am also his friend too, but parent first.

I have tried a number of things to try to make things better and allow us all to have a happy medium, but nothing has done me any real good.

I have currently got an ASUS DSL N55U that I bought purely to have better control over the kids internet access and nothing I do on that seems to make the blind bit of difference?
Previous to that, I was using a Dreytek Vigor, and again, Im just peeing into the wind really.

As for pirating, I have already said its for legal reasons, so, please dont accuse me of doing anything illegal because I have done no such thing.

All my torrents are operating systems and so on, I am unlucky enough to be disabled and have had to give up work and in my bored life, I have a stupid number of computers that I am constantly building and rebuilding and installing all kinds of silly operating systems onto, and so downloading Linux ISOs are a big deal for me. I have thousands of them, and not one is, as you say "Pirated".

There isn't a torrent client for the xbox - everything goes via Xbox Live. Lockdown the PC and router, then throttle his bandwidth. If that fails, give him a clout. ;)

If he doesn't like that he can pay for his own internet connection.

Tell him he can turn it off if he wants. Just as long as he turns it back on once he's finished.

If he insists on turning off your torrents then just kick his Xbox off your router. I imagine that you are the one paying for the internet after all

You need to put an upload bandwidth limit on your torrents because in all honesty this is most likely saturating your entire connection and would make anything latency sensitive ie. gaming almost impossible.

If not put a password on your PC or get better internet.

have the same problem myself but with 2 sons who both have xboxs and laptops and play those silly games like league of legends and so on , i dont know what it is with those games but the minute they fire them it gobbles the bandwidth.

i also have a pc and a xbox and always say to them dont have everything running at once as one lad will play his xbox while playing lol on his lappy while skyping on his tablet . they didnt listen and just kept hammering it so in the end i thought hold on i pay for the internet in this house.

a couple of ethernet cables from my router to my xbox and my pc and job done i just go into the router settings now and turn off the wireless muhahahahhaha

If he wants to stop you using the internet drop the bill on him.

EDIT : also don't take that **** from your son put him in his place :D There is a difference between asking you politely if he can turn them off for a few hours whilst he plays his games and just turning them off That would not fly around here :).

PS not taking away from the fact that you have a friendly relationship with your son that's great! but still boundary's!

Yeah ok "downloading Linux" is an age old internet excuse for pirating

Thousands of Linux .isos? Really?

This seems like a bizarre "issue" which needs a fundamental change in attitude from both sides (particularly your son who needs to learn to follow parental rules) rather than looking to hack an XBO to download torrents, or limit bandwidth to a device.

1) yours is an empty threat. You can't run torrents on an xbox 360 or xbox one. The original xbox had homebrew stuff on it but the 360 / xbox one hasn't.

2) he's got a point. Running torrents while trying to play online gaming is very unlikely to end well unless you've got a connection with loads of bandwidth to spare and you limit what your torrent client can use.

3) stop being a ****. I'm in my mid 30s and have a 12 year old who uses xbox live. We download stuff all the time without managing to have arguments with each other. Just don't download stuff while each other are playing, or if you do, limit the bandwidth usage on the client to a point it doesn't use all the bandwidth and mess up his gaming.

I do run it overnight, but he comes down and switches it off.

.

Have you tried using the bandwidth management options in uTorrent or your torrent client ? do you just allow it to use as much bandwidth as it can get ? thats where you need to start. Also how much bandwidth does your connection have ? if you're on a 4 meg down 0.5 meg up connection there aint no way you can download and play online games at the same time. We manage it because we're on BT Fiber 40 meg down 10 meg up. Xbox live gaming gets on just fine if you don't take more than 10 meg of bandwidth down and 2 up for the torrents.
