I guess this has been asked loads of times but im ready to pull the trigger.

Powercolor Radeon R9 390 8192MB £229

Or

Zotac GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB £239

Help is greatfully appreciated :)

can you wait till Black friday? have you thought about the 780ti on offer - Offers 980 performance once OC'D.

970 - Less heat - Less power - Vram issue.

390 - Cheaper - Excellent performance on higher resolutions - higher power draw - more heat - worst drivers EU.

when is black friday due ? Well im building my 1st gaming pc so i want it too last me a good few years at 1080p with most games maxed

The 390 over the 970

The 970 used to be the card of choice at the price point but look around the net at reviews etc

the 390 is just a better card- plain and simple

8GB v 3.5GB also

Nuff Said:D

Most cards will destroy 1080p - 29th of november ( a bit of a wait - But you see crazy things on that day) who know's 980 maybe £250? :D

Well i can wait a month lol i havnt bought anything yet for my build so if theres potential for savings then il wait. Do intel and amd mix well together?

390 is a better card.

Debatable, a small overclock on the 970 will surpass it, a large one which is more than capable with be a fair bit faster and still draw less power and put out less heat. 390 is not a great clocker.

8GB is overkill, people still on 780s can testify to that.

Then you have the whole Nvida driver, software and game support which is superior to AMD, this is the biggest factor for me when going with Nvidia.

Hahaha I laughed at the last bit. You really wana go there? Nvidia drivers have sucked so hard latley. So many issues. Amd have had much better drivers to run on. @op 390 is the better choice.

No issues here, Nvidia IMO are better, 82% market share say so and this is probably why we see more people having issues with the nvidia driver, not so tech savvy gamers having issues most gamers do not.

AMD drivers issues are hardly reported due to not many people actually buying AMD GPUs.

Wow you seem deluded?? Vast amount of Nvidia users were having same problems. Just go look on the Nvidia forums or even here and you will see previous pages full of issues. Many users are fine with single amd cards and performance is great. Crossfire just has profile issues where the issue is there isnt many profiles for the games ppl want but when crosfire is working scaling is great and works well. Way ppl preceive amd drivers is they are bad and dnt work. Where thats more a Nvidia issue of late.

Get nvidia man, the 390 is a rebadged 290. Nvidias clock better less heat and power. Hold resale value longer and if they do have driver issues im certain Nvidias on it unlike Amd. Lack of crossfire profiles is testament to this, maybe minor in others eyes but shows a lot.

Both are really good, so it shouldn't be too tense a decision. :D

I tend to find that I prefer AMD's IQ a little more, while on the other hand, I usually find Nvidia's performance a bit smoother / crisper. I've never suffered any major driver issues from either camp in all the time I've been PC gaming (15 years).
