But giving anyone the opportunity to give their views across for debate is the whole point. You then educate them with your opinion. Stupidity is just a lack of salient knowledge which can be remedied by intelligent discourse.

But if that opinion is wrong because it is not based on facts and reason then you aren't educating anyone with anything useful, but brain washing simpletons who think the BBC is biased.

Exactly, it's only in the last few years that BBC been allowed to di this and it's great, before they had to give equal time to nutters with no basis in fact or evidence, which was just wrong. Thank god it's changed a bit.

And freedom of speech, sounds more like a station for ranting and illogical views for simpletons.

As above political compass either side can be authoritarian/liberal. Shame we don't have any parties that are right and liberal there's is where you find progressive and fair countries.

The Lib Dems? Political Compass had them down as Right-Wing Liberal in 2010. They'll probably be back there for 2020 given how bad 2015 went.

Stupidity is thinking that yours is the only opinion that matters and calling people stupid for having their own.

Can't get anymore stupid than that I feel.

left is intrinsically authoritarian :/
Not really, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-libertarianism.

I have the feeling the main purpose of the OP's new news feed is to discuss the return of the golliwog on national television & how 'political correctness has gone mad!' :p.

Actually that's just a trait you believe to be stupid, objectively it's a deficit of intelligence.

Some things opinions don't come into it, anything which is provable as a matter of fact for one - opinions should reside in areas to which subjectivity is free to reign. People having flawed opinions on matters which are demonstrably true or false on the other hand is something I believe to be stupid.

People who moan about a lack of free speech nowadays tend to be saying "I should be able to be homophobic, racist and sexist without anyone challenging me or calling me out on my BS opinions".

We don't have free speech, ask any consultant/lawyer and they'll charge you a pretty penny for the same statement.

Free speech is the freedom to say what you like without being arrested for it, it is not being able to say what you like without social consequences and its definately not a right to follow through on anything you say or give the impression you plan to (like saying "i'm going to build a bomb...")

to the nsa agents reading this flagged post no i'm not actually going to build a bomb

Jon Gaunt is an egotistical bully who shouts down anyone who doesn't believe in his personally-held right-wing views. It was this behaviour that got him fired from TalkSport, calling a council worker a Nazi live on air over the issue of smoking (IIRC) being the final straw.

100% agree, yes people have free speech to say what they want but I also have free speech to call them an idiot.

Its like freedom in general does not mean freedom to murder or to steal etc etc. To some extent i like to think of it as freedom to face the consequences, yes you can do literally anything you want but you have to accept the consequences of your actions.
