Hi guys,

Posted in the Customer Support section and Baily suggested I post here for your experiences of this Card.

Is it normal to have constant noise going on while gaming and at desktop within an IE/Edge/Chrome Window?. Compared to the built in Sound, this Card is terrible. Game volume needs to be turned up to a headache generating level to hear the Game Sound.

Tried the card in my machine and the Wife's with the same results. Tried moving the Card to different slots with no effect on the symptoms either.

Thoughts please guys?

Thanks,
Tom

That isn't normal at all. Could be a fault with the card if you are getting the same problems with the card in 2 different computers.

explain constant noise.

a friend of mine has a constant hum whilst his speakers are on that back feeds thru his headset. disappears when he turns the amp off tho

Sounds like static, remember back in the days of the old TV queue cards when a channel was off line. Bit like that.

No, it stays when the speakers are turned off.

Do you have something else to connect? different speakers or maybe headphones?

Same setup with on board sound does not exhibit the same symptoms. Good thought though. In actual fact, the on board sound is light years ahead on the Xonar.

Have you got just a normal pair of headphones, or earphones to try out with it?

Kaves use USB for power which can introduce noise and the speakers are connected to mains power, which can also introduce noise.

Using a normal pair of head or earphones with nothing else connected will stand the best chance of revealing whether there is a ground loop issue that has been causing the noise, or whether there is a fault with the card.

If you get same problem with normal headphones and nothing else connected, in 2 different PCs, then I would say it's more than likely a fault with the card.

Hi Guys, tested with earphones (dodgy old iPhone set). Noise is still there, pulled the Card out and reseated it, that reduced the static but it's still there. Any other suggestions? I don't want to go through returning it if I don't have too.

If the volume is ridiculously low when installed in different machines then the card is most likely broken. The static you are hearing is probably just the noise floor which is only audible because you have the volume so high.

Could be that the sound card is picking up EMI being chucked out by the GPU. Normally though, it is worse when playing a game, if that is the problem. When on desktop, the noise is often considerably less. Doesn't explain why it isn't affecting onboard audio though. Sound cards are often better shielded than onboard audio, unless the motherboard is one where the audio has been placed where it has better isolation.

Probably worth trying a ground loop isolator. If that doesn't make any difference, then I think it's looking like a fault with the card.
