Got (minorly) rear ended, other driver drove off but got his plate and mob no. What to do?

Call 101, say someone damaged your car and drove off. Give them his registration number, mobile number and address. You can't make it any easier than that for them :P

Oh of course report it, but don't expect to hear back.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. My car got broken in to a few years ago, smashed the drivers side window and took a couple of C.Ds out of the glove box. Reported it to 101, got a crime ref number. Thought that's that, an hour later a guy comes out to have a look ask a few questions etc... Didn't hear anything for a good six months then out of the blue they arrive again to tell me they found who did it.

Agreed, someone tried to get in my garage earlier this year whilst at work, they were here an hour later to view the CCTV footage & took a copy, they came back a few weeks later wanting a statement as they had found them.

Turns out they had burgled a few other places the same week & they wanted to be able to get them on conspiracy to commit burglary whatever that means.

They came back for more footage a few months later when someone broke into a neighbours, they actually seem pretty decent here.

Hitting some and driving off is an offence, they will be interested in that.

No, they won't. I was hit on a roundabout a couple of years ago, chased the guy around south london whilst on the phone to the police, not only did they not attend, but they said there was insufficient evidence, despite me having photos of the damage on my car, a full description of the driver, and the exact location where it happened (which was covered by a council CCTV camera)

London is a dive though?
A friend of mine had his car hit and run outside his house in Stone couple of weeks ago, rang the police and was attended within half an hour, they got everything resolved.

I would probably have googled the phone number, see if that turns up the address or a name (such as on a gumtree ad). Get the details of the keeper from DVLA (£5). Then use a third party claims manager and say that you exchanged details with them - here is the make, model, reg.no., their name, mobile number and the address. They will contact their insurer who will in turn contact them and hope they admit it, if not they would ask why they exchanged details with you.

Where they the one's that you started a thread over a while back when that crappy Saxo pretended to break down outside your house and that guy came up your path  what happened to the car they left in the end?

Sneaky, but nice idea! Would be interesting to see what happens if the guy claimed he didn't pass on any details? Would look like he exchanged details and is now trying to deny it but who would they side with?

Do you think we'd get the same response in Wolves though?

Turned out it was broken down, he brought a few friends the next day & got it running but it sounded like a toolbox being thrown down a flight of stairs the police did come to look at the footage from that one too, the scummer was known to them.

This one was a separate incident where they pulled up in a van & came looking around the house, it looks like the dog put them off trying to get in the back door as he would have been at the glass going mental, a 7 stone Staffie crossed with a lab foaming at the mouth is a good deterrent :)

They tried the rear door of the garage but the constant barking likely put them off so they left.

I think on balance I'd still take London over Wolverhampton :p
