Hi,

Never hired a car in Europe before but I'm going to Nice for 8days next June (happen to have some tickets to some Euro games too coincidentally, sorry wife!)

Looked at car hire through Easyjet and they have better prices with Europcar than direct and looking at the fine print the price:

Includes: Theft Waiver (Excess 1,250 euro)
Licenses & Fees
CDW (Excess 1,250 euro)

Excludes: Super personal accident coverage
Super collision damage waiver
Personal Accident insurance.

That's all I need isn't it? Just the CDA and Theft Waiver? I can buy excess cover elsewhere correct?

Who does everyone use for the excess waiver?

Cheers

1,250 euros sounds average. Excess can be £1000 in the UK easily. Got to make it high to convince you to buy the excess waiver insurance from them.

Check the fuel policy as well. Some companies can really overcharge for the first tank and you need to return empty.

May be a different policy with Easyjet vs using the company direct.

Separate excess insurance is the way to go. I've personally used http://www.insurance4carhire.com/ and claimed successfully when a car was keyed in Spain.

Having spent quite a lot of time driving around Nice, I would definitely get excess insurance. Bump parking is considered perfectly normal there, more so even than in cities like Paris and Barcelona. Good fun if you're covered, not so fun if you've got a huge excess to pay.

Haha, interesting! Yer I'm definitely getting the excess waiver.

Mileage is unlimited can't find petrol info.

£1000+ excess looks normal since I've been looking. You must have secretly been stung in to paying for a reduced excess :p

Brilliant, just wanted to double check before I start preaching to the rest of the party who are coming and hiring cars.

Thanks

where in europe? 1,250 euros seems too much.

This is the standard excess for almost all major hire firms.

i hired a panda for 2 weeks in ibiza in july. the CDW excess was 350 euros i had to paid that in advance

How bizarre. No reputable major rental firm should need to take the full CDW excess in advance and I would refuse to rent from one that would. I've never had any more than £1 taken from me as a deposit on any hire.

Same for me with the excess.

Europcar in the UK claimed if I used my Amex they would take(and later refund) a £200 deposit, but if I used Visa or Mastercard they would just authorise the £200.

Normally stick with Hertz, but Europcar has a one way airport rental product which is sometimes cheaper than parking.

Ive never had to pay a deposit when hiring a car in any country to my knowledge, they usually just take a pre auth and thats it?

copuy/paste

9.WHAT IS NECESSARY AS A DEPOSIT?

We ask you for an open charge on your creditcard for petrol and extras. The excess will be charged on your creditcard if you have not payed the FW insurance. Once the car has been returned without any new damage this amount will be returned to your creditcard account.

i used this company 4 times and never had any problem. its well known rental company in Ibiza
