Dewalt, Makita, Bosch all make cheaper tools aimed at DIY, which are the ones being mentioned in this thread. They will all work fine, but wont stand up to the abuse the more expensive tools will.

I have had my Dewalt kit for 8-10 years and its still going strong. The new tools are always improving, not getting worse. Brushless, work lights, li-ion 5ah batteries, loads of new tools like multitools and cordless first/second fix nailers.

I got my hands on the DeWalt I mentioned when I popped into Screwfix earlier. Seemed a pretty good bit of key, sturdy, well built. Still in no real rush to buy anything yet :)

I would imagine most people on here would be DIYers - Pro's always buy the heavy duty stuff.

Have to say though that I am impressed with Stanley Fatmax - - My work supplied drills were Bosch GBH 24v SDS - Bit heavy but new Bosch 36v SDS+ with vibration handle is brilliant.

i bought a ryobi for b and q for £99 (2 batteries) and its been great so far.

been thrown around a few times too being knocked off stepladders and the like.

The real test is to drop it out of a first floor window onto concrete :o.

Id get this one from screwfix for £100 as its quality.......

I have the GSB 10.8v version, and its a fantastic drill and the power for such a small drill is amazing. Im thinking about upgrading it to the GSB 1800 version as its twice as powerful, roughly the same size as my current drill, rotates at 1700rpm and has a 13mm chuck.

Also If you buy Bosch tools you want the "blue" range not the "green" range as they are more robust and better quality.

Can confirm this is a great drill. I bought the 2 x 2Ah version for an extra £20 from screwfix. 2Ah batteries are slightly lighter and handy having a spare for when one runs out mid job

Grrrr - I see they also have a B&D workmate for £39 - same one I got myself a month ago for £70 :eek::eek:

I was reading the other day that DeWalt is owned by B&D and so is Stanley - Seems Fatmax series is a go between DeWalt and DIY B&D drills.
