I'm looking for a new fabric roof for my car and have been scouting around getting some ideas on costs. In the UK I can't seem to find a decent supplier for less than around 1k, in the US however I can get parts dirt cheap but what I have no idea about is the cost of importing from the US?

For example this roof delivered is around £300, but what would the import taxes etc be roughly?

Doh should have done some googling found a calculator and import looks to be about 130, with a total landed cost of around £600.

Don't really know if it is worth the aggravation of fitting it myself. In lieu of this information anybody know any decent hood specialists in the south east?

edit: Or do I buy a hard top as well? run the hard top for a bit while restoring the frame, mechanics and fabric on my roof over the winter?

Landed cost of £600...Sorry mate wheres that from
Sounds high imho, there's always the chance that you wont even be charged customs/import duty. The last large shipment I had of car parts cut under £45, which tbh I think was just a handling fee. The time before that we did get charged but it was about £400 and the order was drastically more than £300

The auction says....
Item £280
shipping £50

So ~£320 in total

If the package is stopped your gonna get charged 20% on that for VAT so an additional £64, maybe a handling charge from the courier. The advert states USPS who hadn off to royal mail in the UK. The admin charge is either £8 or £12 cant remember off the top of my head.

The advert states materials are cloth and plastic so I'm guessing that none of the mechanical side of it is included, so it's gonna be a fairly light package.

Have it declared as a car cover, with an approariate value and in my eyes thats gonna cost you less than £400 delivered to your door

BTW:
teh same seller seems to list the item on a didfferent auction $50 cheaper?

Cheers for this mate! I used this import calculator:

http://www.dutycalculator.com/

What I have just done though on a whim is bought myself a hard top. The add claims it's a colour that wasn't available on a 996 (cobolt blue). Called the seller and he thinks it was a special order. From the photos the colour looks similar to ocean/lapis. Either way ill run with that and think i might also put an order in for the new roof material.

It's a shame I cant find a decent suppler for the blue roof (what colour i have now) in the uk.
