Audi A1, opinions?

And I could probably post a link to an A1 SE with zero spec for the same price as that fabia SE with zero spec...

OP, think you should just go check out a few A1s at your local Audi dealer and ignore the majority of people on here who have never driven/been in the car. The difference between the A1 and the polo/fabia is so much more than 'a better instrument panel'. They'll be suggesting 14 year old M3s next...

Probably the best idea!

We doe have an Audi dealership not too far away.

It is Quattro.

Is damned expensive for what it is though, you gotta REALLY like the car to pay out that much.

It is expensive, but relative to what your getting. I think my dads car was about £22k, 64 plate with a couple of thousand miles on the clock. 0-60 is about 5.6 seconds. I don't think there is anything out there that is cheaper, faster and less than year old with barely any miles on it.

The A1 really doesn't look that much better than any of the other VAG offerings, the Polo is a reasonably okay place to sit in and the infotainment was more than acceptable (and it was in the dash not in a silly pod). The A1 looks fairly bare inside and I guess save for a few better quality bits, is it worth the extra? Most of the time it'll just boil down to the fact the badge on the grille is a bit posher.

Fiesta ST and pocket the difference, if your Mum doesn't mind looking like a boy racer :p The TSFI engines seem fairly problematic too, if the internet is to be believed.

Go for it. Cheapest brand new zero spec A1s I can find are 15k. £14,716 for a 1.0TFSI on broadspeed. Dont know where you're finding them for 11k, if you could post one for that price then I'll buy one to sell on and make a swift few grand profit

They look like standard FR seats, not alcantara. I think the alcantara seats are part leather (bolsters leather, rest alcantara)

Go on then. Assuming we're talking about the same (or as close as possible) drivetrain. This will be an interesting sanity check.
BTW, I do mean new.

Looking now it does seem like the price has increased. I remember when i bought a new one, the cheapest new was around £13k, with deposit contribution from dealer probably closer to £11-12k.

So with a similar drivetrain, how much extra is the "nicer interior" actually going to cost someone?

And probably the price of the others has increased too, making the "crap value" argument as valid back then as it was today. Like others have said, you're spending several thousand pounds for a "nicer" interior and a badge.

Okay whatever.

You could say the same about literally every car model/brand. Why spend 'several thousand pounds' extra for a BMW 3 series over a Insignia. Hmmm...

How about your jag for instance? X type essentially a mondeo underneath from what I've read on here.

It is indeed a Mondeo underneath, albeit with AWD - what's your point?

I didnt say being a different car underneath was a bad thing, but paying this much more for the same car at this end of the market is mad.

Is a 2004 X Type 2.5 for 1800 quid worth £300-£500 more than a Mondeo 2.5 V6? You get a nicer interior and AWD... yep, worth it in my books

Is one German small hatch worth £3000 more than another small German hatch with exactly the same underpinnings because it has a different badge and a slightly nicer dashboard? The rational answer is no...

Lol? If this was even close to being remotely true, how would Skoda ever sell the Fabia? Think about it.

There's not much thinking going on there :) Remember blackhawk used to suggest an A1 in absolutely any thread regardless of requirements, so he's a bit blinkered
