Just got an email from my lease dealer.

Amazing price on a high specd Merc

Mercedes Benz
E220d AMG Night edition 4dr saloon automatic in stock for £199.99+VAT
£2500+VAT inital payment
10,000 miles per annum
non maintained
Business contract hire

Vehicles must be registered by the end of the month

Thats a £38k car for just £8759.71 inc VAT for two years.

Not everybody's cup of tea and not as good as a 5 series but not bad for £38k rear wheel drive car to only cost £8,759.71 for two years.

I dunno if it seems particularly good when you add the VAT then divide it back out to a monthly payment?

£400+ on a monthly basis seems pretty much the norm for this type of car

Its £364.98 inc VAT per month for the two years??????

Did some googling, it adds bi-colour alloys and some black gloss exterior trim. Exciting!

Thats a bit mean! It adds sport suspension, twin exhausts, climate control, leather sports seats and lots of other stuff too!

Exterior
18"AMG alloy wheels – bi-colour 5-twin-spoke design
AMG bodystyling – front and rear apron, side skirts
Beltline trim strip and window surround - high-gloss black
DIRECT CONTROL sports suspension – firmer damper set up
Exterior mirror housings – high-gloss black
Front and rear apron trim strip and front splitter – high-gloss black
Front brakes with perforated discs and calipers with ‘Mercedes-Benz’ lettering
Radiator grille – 2 louvres in high-gloss black
Roof rails – high-gloss black (Estate only)
Twin-pipe exhaust system with squared, integrated tailpipes in stainless steel
Interior
3-spoke multi-function AMG sports steering wheel in nappa leather with flattened bottom section
Black roof lining
Brushed stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs and AMG floor mats
Sports seats upholstered in leather with light contrast stitching
THERMATIC – automatic climate control with digital display

These deals have been around for a while.
The current Merc E Class is being replaced next year so it's to shift old stock. I guess the deals will only improve as the new model release gets closer.

The initial payment on the above deal is high. I'd rather pay a lower initial and higher monthly payments.

Ridiculous model name. No dressing up or naming convention will negate that fact that it's an entry level 4pot diesel - I have no gripes with the engine, it is what it is, but putting a fancy frock on it won't change a thing.

That is how the market has changed over the last decade.
This car is aimed purely at business customers / company car drivers who want a high spec exec car with the lowest possible benefit in kind tax.

Anyone looking for an E63 can move along :p

Exactly. the 4 pot diesel keeps the company car tax to a minimum but company car drivers want a car that looks good and has lots of toys.

Every manufacturer does this. Look at bmw with M sport models even on their lowest engined cars.

E63's are now only £589.99 a month on a 3 year lease deal with 9 months up front so £25,959.56.

Not cheap enough yet :p

I had one of these for the weekend last weekend. It was quite good but I wouldn't want to pay almost 5k a year to drive it.

You wouldn't though. Your company would pay £4014.86 a year (claiming half the vat back) including road fund licence.

There aren't many cars that would cost a company as little as £4k per year and I think i would prefer the merc over the other choices.

Hell even a 1.6TDi bluemotion base model golf costs that per year.

These deals tend to be typical end of year, but usually are not open to non business users, so simply adding the VAT on isn't always going to work. They typically need to be bought against a business.
