Thames Valley Police Video - Sexual consent is like making tea

Maybe its just me but I thought it was common knowledge.

Sad that it has to be taught.

Don't think I've ever been taught not to rape someone, doesn't mean I'll do it though. Maybe I'm simplifying it too much but surely if a person is the type to rape someone teaching them its wrong is going to make little to no difference?

Until we start teaching adolescent boys not to rape, instead of teaching adolescent girls that it's their fault for getting raped by what they wear, not much is going to change, even with twee little videos about tea.

I remember a few classes at school that only girls were allowed to go to, I'd always assumed it was about menstruation and training bras, I never knew that kind of thing was being taught!

I am not being flippant here but I have no been told not to rape anyone, I find it bizarre that people think we need to tell people not to do it.

No! No!

No rape! Bad!

That's a bad adolescent boy! Bad!

TL;DR: Your premise is retarded.

Was just posting to say exactly this.

Did the POLICE just STEAL a video...?

"You wouldn't **** in a police mans hat" - What do you know, they would!

Erm how do you know they haven't purchased the rights to use it?

Who teaches that then?

Ah yes, consent... I agree with it but it falls down when intoxication comes into it.

If both parties are equally drunk, how can one be incapable of consent but the other one is capable to not only deem if consent is given by other person but also that the consent is valid

Isnt that a contradiction?

How can people not understand consent ..

A good question.

I think the intent of such things is good and analogies can be useful, but does it really help?

If someone understands what consent is and abides by it, they're not going to be raping anyone anyway.

If someone understands what consent is and doesn't abide by it, they're not going to be dissuaded from raping people by a video explaining what consent is (or by being told rape is bad - they either don't care or they know and get off on it).

If someone doesn't understand what consent is, they're so lacking in something that there's no way that they're going to understand it.

I think that the prevailing attitude that male people are rapists who need to be taught not to rape or that all male people are taught to be rapists is delusional and counter-productive (if the objective is to reduce rape, which I doubt since I think that the objective is to increase sexism).

Lol muppet.

Teach boys not to rape? Should we also put in lessons for people not to murder, because clearly if we don't teach it they will be murdering left right and centre.
