Looking grim for the commute tomorra. No messing around, just the most direct route possible.

Yeah, I'm planning to ride in, but I'm thinking I'll want to head out early to stay ahead of the downpour.

Btw you mentioned a single speed build a few pages back. I can't help you on decent wheels, but a single speed would be ideal for your flat commute. I'm actually in the process of interviewing for a job near where you work (possibly in the same building?) and if I get it I'll probably commute in on my single speed.

I've got this:

and I love it :p

That's cool what is it?

. I love my two tone. Was gonna get some more for cx but wanted something but more grippy and didn't want to spend 30 quid on something that's likely to have a few more bashes.

Ouch! Numpty! I was going to comment before about rolling in the doorway looking like a great idea when first starting on rollers, had you moved? Bike ok? :o :D

I've moved to the back door/under stairs cupboard in the kitchen. Door to my right and I can just about hold onto the cupboard door frame with my left hand to start off.

Just so happened I lost concentration when slowing down a bit.

Decided to go outside tonight for my usual jaunt to Clydebank, managed to get a KOM as I was drafting some guy who called me a *****. Probably wasn;t amused I was keeping up on the flat, I had my light pointed at the ground at this point, was being iffy about letting me get to the right hand lane to go round a roundabout so I ended up riding at his passenger door all the way round then side by side up to just under 30 for a few hundred yards until he pulled off to join the motorway. Not clever but I'm getting sick of people who try to pass joining roundabouts then panic brake as I take my line through it, people pulling out who don't realise you're going quite as fast etc.

Used to be Chadwick House, now that's just where my locker is.I work close by to Chadwick now.

Well setting off at 7 meant I got all the rain. At 7:30 it brightened up and stopped!!! Grrr!

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a track frame and flip flop wheels so I can decide day to day which setup I'd prefer. Thinking maybe the aluminium Dolan frames and some cheap flip flop wheels (can't seem to find a good selection online though?). Self build probably and then ride it to work.

With single speed/fixie, what are the legal requirements for brakes? If any? For the fixie, do I just need a front bake and for a single speed do I need both front and back?

That's right - you need two brakes of whatever kind in total.

Given that if the front fails you could be in for a world of hurt and you are planning on being able to swap between SS and fixed it's probably best to get two brakes anyhow.

Are all chainring bolts equal....

I have a set of Praxis Works chain rings that I bought off a Facebook forum brand new for 1/3rd the price from a shop!

I'm wondering if my Rotor bolts will be the same as the Praxis ones....

I got drizzled on most of the way in, but that was it.

I put in a couple of orders for commuting gear last night. Jerseys, shorts, socks and base layers from decathlon; a cree sun-asplode lightmatic from eBay; and an Overboard Premium waterproof rucksack from Amazon which is end of line so only cost me £35. Now I wait for the packages to roll in...

Dolan do a frame called the fxe which I think will do the job. Basically you want something with track ends, that's the key requirement, unless you want to faff about with eccentric hubs or some such. Two brakes is best, as then you can swap to single speed with ease. Besides, fixed needs extra skillz which may or may not be easy to pick up, but I wouldn't know as I've not tried! Single speed wheels are mostly cheap and nasty. I'm going to build some in January/February to replace the ones I've currently got.

You must have two methods for stopping. For fixie, that is front brake + fixed wheel. For single-speed, that is a brake front and rear.

I still see a few brakeless fixie commuters though. I doubt the po-po would stop you for it but I can't see how it's a fun way of riding as you cannot push hard unless you have no fear of crashing/death!
