390x or xfire 290x

They're not the same card, the 390/X has lots of little changes the 290/X don't have. They are not massively dissimilar granted, but they are not the same card.

The point he's making is that you can crossfire a 200 series Hawaii card with a 300 series Grenada card.

It won't matter if you have 4gb Hawaii models either, They will still work with the 8 gb Grenada models, It just means you have a 4gb roof.

One of the guys who runs the Videocardz site tested it with his 4gb 290x and an 8 gb 390x and it is fine. He wrote about it on the Videocardz site in an article that released at the same time as we got the driver update that allowed the 200 and 300 series to both run on the same drivers.

EDIT: Here it is,

290x crossfire works fines on my 850w EVGA PSU, your PSU seems to have virtually the same amps so i cant see there been a problem. I would stick with 1440p if ya wanna keep high settings in all the latest games, 290x crossfire is perfect for 1440p.

Sorry, he comments on EVERYTHING with the same post.

4k should be pretty damn good on 2x 290x's I am thinking of doing it but with the 290, albeit on 1440p, but getting 144hz and freesync because i mainly play CS:GO.
