Madeleine McCann investigation 'cost £10 million to date'

A crime happens 15 years ago, in another country and the police can afford to spend £10m and put 29 officers on full time duty on it for years.

My house get burgled tomorrow and I'd be lucky to get one officer, £35 and more than a couple of hours spent on any investigation.

Yes.
In both cases the money may or may not have been wasted.
Assange, reasonbly sure that was an utter conceptual waste.
Maddie. I actually hope as a byproduct of these investigations, that they might have uncovered leads or deeply investigated some groups of pedos, and that it might lead to completely unreleated arrests, and the breaking up of pedo rings.
Hopefully some aspect of the 29 member team has proven useful, and we will hear later of the great work they managed.

Sadly I think all they've uncovered is a big pile of sod all.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is how the police prioritise time/money/man power for any given crime

1) Amount of publicity it gets (if its in the news you're guaranteed dedication)
2) Whether it was a crime against one of their own.
2) Ease of detection (low hanging fruit makes the stats look better)
3) Severity of crime

The funding came from a separate budget via the Home Office, not the operational budget, and it was the HO who requested that MPS review the case. You'd know both of these things if you'd read the article.

What absolute tripe.

Dry that out and it would fertilise any needy garden.

I've never understood this vitriol towards the McCanns - surely all of the many, many people in these threads that somehow know the couple are guilty should be handing their evidence into the boys in blue and saving us from wasting that vast amount of taxpayers' money (which would simply be wasted on something else, anyway).

There's an entire cultlike conspiracy community devoted to attacking the McCanns. It's utterly bizarre.
