Trailer:

Unbelievable! Honestly I wasn't expecting Nier to get a sequel. I am one very happy bunny after this! Such a great story! It's a PS exclusive this time round though.

The first Nier launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The cult game's original developer, Cavia, disbanded in 2010 after Taro left the studio.

Nier 2 is being developed by Platinum Games!

Most memorable E3 for me. :p

It appears Nier 2 will feature 3 playable characters. One being the girl in the trailer and the young boy and the third is still a mystery.

I can't even remember what happened to Nier (the middle aged man)? I have a feeling he won't be in the sequel.

From an interview in this week’s Famitsu, we have a handful of new details on the brand new Nier game that surfaces at Square Enix’s E3 conference. I translated the interview bits below.

—————————————————————————————————

Famitsu: Does this take place in the same world/universe as Nier?

Yoko Taro: It takes place in the same world as Nier, but in the future. If players start with this game, they should have no problems following the story. In fact, those who come into this expecting it to be a direct sequel might find themselves a bit lost.

Famitsu: Will characters from the last game appear?

Yoko Taro: Not everyone is going to pop up, but yes, some characters will be appearing. They won’t be in central roles though.

Famitsu: What’s going on with the CERO* rating?

Yoko Taro: We had made Nier with the intent of getting a B or C, but we ended up with a D. We’re developing this new game in the hopes of getting an A, but…

There will be a New Game + of some kind. It’ll be different from the last game.
Drakengard’s Weapon Story system is set to be in the game.
The development is currently 10% done.

So its just an action game now?

Combat in the first game wasn't its strong point so they approached PlatinumGames to help co-develop it and improve the quality of the gameplay. As it's still the same director, composers etc etc, it should still remain very faithful to the original Nier (something PlatinumGame developers also wanted).

Looks pretty sick like.
The atmosphere and characters from the first game with a PlatinumGames combat system should make for a great game.

The first was a game I knew nothing about, tried an loved so if they keep all that was great from that game this will be amazing

So is Platinum's influence limited to just combat?

So many people equate combat with gameplay, but with RPG's, it's really only just one aspect of gameplay. Even a minor aspect in some cases. Gameplay in RPG's tends to also be defined by stat-based progression(leveling systems), choices in character and/or story development, exploration, loot, party choices, etc.

As far as I'm aware yes, and if that last part was targeted specifically at me I think you read into what I said a bit too much...

I really need to go back and finish the original some day. I got pretty far into it, then put it down for some reason and never went back. I remember enjoying it quite a bit.

On December 22, the consumer demo of the highly anticipated title NieR: Automata™ will be available on the PlayStation™Network. With an abandoned factory as the backdrop, the demo follows android 2B’s mission to destroy a massive enemy weapon that lies within.

Huh... totally fallen for the main character 2B, she so freaking hot :o

But then again it's obvious she's been designed to be total wifu bait :p
