Not sure if this is the right place but here goes please tell me f its in the wrong place and ill move it on.

So I finally managed after much deliberating to pluck up the courage to not only buy the components but to build the machine myself with the help of here and YouTube :)

So firstly thanks to everyone that offered help and assistance. :)

I went for the below components
I5 6600k Skylake
Z170xp SLI gigabyte board
8gb Avexir 2400 ram
MSI R9 390
750w Superflower leadex 80+gold
Hyper x SSD.

My question for you all is are there any recommended programme's for watching/monitoring/recording temps etc. as being my first build I kind of want to know all is going ok and see what's its doing while gaming etc.
I have had a look around but couldn't really find what I was looking for.:o

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Your 390 will have MSI afterburner software with it, which amongst other things has a neat detachable hardware monitor that you can put any parameter you can imagine on it regarding the GPU. Ive got that , hw monitor, and the windows cpu usage widget on one of my screens. Also network meter and Drives meter widgets i like.

Thanks for the reply, I installed the disc that came with my card however it installed something called MSI Kombuster and not afterburner,

I have just opened this and for some reason it is showing as a r9 290 in this?? I am a little confused now

In the old days you found out about new drivers on the grapevine, normally months after release. :D Its easier now you just get told , your motherboard should have update software also. First thing to check if something starts acting up is the drivers

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it, I did install the disk that came with the motherboards also so should be all up to date thus far,

Only thing I haven't looked at that I have seen mentioned is the BIOS but I have only got the computer running late last night

Yeah no rush, plenty of time for faffing and tinkering :D check out some youtube vids for updating bios on your particular board, download from the manufacturer site, they may also give instructions.

Basically you put the new bios file on a memory stick , go into bios click a particular button and off it goes. But its one of those things that needs to be done carefully, so dont rush into it.

Yeah no probs I have plenty of reading to do and that is after getting used to windows :)

Will try out some games tomorrow and see how they perform aswell

Consensus for the BIOS is if everything is working OK, you can leave it be, normally when issues arise BIOS update is a good option to start with.

Enjoy the tinkering, it's addictive. :D

Thanks Reaper I'm still tinkering away just getting bits and pieces sorted and installed etc

I like HWiNFO64 and selecting some readings to appear in system tray. Like so (all the coloured boxes with numbers on bottom-right):

Apart from that I also use Afterburner/Rivatuner for FPS reading and limiting.

Thanks Danny I have afterburner/river already as part of the download but need to learn how to understand all it is telling me

I have also got HWinfo which has been recommended a couple of times so thanks again for that :)

Speccy is and easy tool worth having.

I never monitor mine all the time, I just open up Speccy every now and again..

Thanks Bledd ill take a look at this as well, Obviously being my first build I would like to know things are running correct etc and not getting hot although I have some learning to understand the numbers shown in the various programs

So I have come across my first problem with my new build.

I have twice this morning tried to open MSI afterburner only for the PC to freeze and I need to click the restart button on the case to start again.

the first time this has happened is in the last 15 minutes and the only difference between now and the last 24 hours I've been using the machine has been I've plugged in some usb speakers??

Any advice welcome
