Hi all,
so, using the MSI Krait x99 board, 16gb DDR4 2400 ram and 17-5820k.
As a test, i'm using MSI Intel Extreme Tuning utility for overclocking.

All i'm doing right now is bumping up the core multipliers and running a quick 10min stress test.
As i type this i'm testing x40 (4GHz) and its crashed (win8.1) on me.
x39 (3.9Ghz) tested fine with all cores running at 57°C max on 100% usage, so i'll drop back to that and see how it goes.

This really is just an exercise to "see what it can do".

For those familiar with the utility i'm using (not MSI's OC Genie), what else would you consider doing to boost the performance of the rig?

Thanks for any input :)

Don't use software to overclock the CPU mate, read up and watch some reviews on youtube and learn how to use the bios with X99. I had to do just that only 2 months back. ( Edit - I know you said just a test, so it wasn't a permanent thing using software )
I have to admit though I was lost with overclocking using X99, and for a few days I also used the software haha. It's really easy using the bios once you get the hang of it.

Any tips you could give for X99 overclocking??

I just recently set up my 5820k and MSI Krait X99A.
I'm no overclocking expert, but I just set the XMP profile (3000mhz may be different depending on Ram.) and a multiplier of 36.
Set the core volts to 1.25 and its rock solid.
I'm sure it can do more, but I'm not sure I need it.

I didn't really understand that setting an XMP profile increases the clock speed so initially i set the multiplier to 45 for 4.5ghz, then the xmp profile.
It still posted at 5.5Ghz on 1.25v. I doubt it was stable though.

Lol, the multi and strap with xmp is a bit of a brain blower to me too. So used to Z87, ill be chuffed if I can hit 4.5. Even at stock in benchmarks it's much cooler than my old 4790k. Had it at 4.7ghz on 1.300v.

Yeah I'm impressed with temps, even in what is considered a bit of an air starved case (NZXT H440) it's pretty cool (This is idle)

And this is on a custom fan curve, at only 800rpm idle (can't hear them at all)
