x99 gaming machine

Hi ty. budget between 500-600 for the cpu, mobo, and ram. The original board I was looking at was the evga X99 Micro2 X99, is the gigabyte X99M Gaming 5 same in performance and reliability?.

Hi

Could someone help regarding the gigabyte motherboard in the bundle. just a few questions will I get the full advantage of m.2 speeds and is USB 3.1 anything I will miss. also what speed ram would I need to overclock the 5820 to around 4.2-4.4 thank you.

Well m.2 requires some of your PCI-E lanes, so provided you are using just 1 graphics card (without looking at the board I guess it can only fit 1?) then you will have spare PCI-E capacity for an M.2 drive.

regarding USB 3.1 I personally don't have any devices that can make use of it, so that's going to be a personal preference.

Regarding RAM, I have only got some 2133 stuff and don't have any problems reaching beyond 4.0GHz if I wanted to, I just keep it at that speed to have it nice and cool/quite.

Hi thank for your reply. In a review it said "Only a 10Gbps M.2 connector " would that mean I would have to use a pci-e slot for a m.2 instead of the one provided on the board.

thanks

My knowledge on M2 drive is a little limited, however, I believe that the connector is an "m2" type, and they have their own ports on the motherboard, they just require some of your PCI-E bandwidth to operate.

The Gigabyte board M.2 slot is connected to the chipset so it only runs at x2. The faster slots use the pci-e lanes and run at x4.

Yeah Gigabyte has a 10Gbps connector rather than the faster 32Gbps connector.

I don't know how it affects SSD performance so you would have to look for benchmarks etc.

Hi need some more help. I still cant make my mind up between skylake and x99. trying to find a better more upto date x99 micro board could someone tell me if the evga micro 2 is any good and what is evga like regarding rma. many thanks
