Hi there guys I just got my first car Vaxhall corsa 1.2 v16 3dr and Im looking to replace the speakers any advice on which ones to pick to improve sound quality over the stock ones as they sound pretty bad.

What about a replacement head unit? Stock speakers aren't always that bad and it could be down to the amp in the headunit. Was the case on my previous 2 cars.

Yes, as said above. The cars amp is likely to be your first restriction. Swap that out first and see what it's like then. After that you should consider swapping out speakers.

I can only echo what is posted above. The speakers are likely fine and it's the stock headunit that is gutless.

Okay thanks guys. The sound is very closed like in aquarium, almost like it cut in frequencies. Any ideas on replacement unit?

Yup I can echo what's been said above. With the exception of my current car - in which the audio system is frankly superb - I've replaced the head unit in every car I've owned and even with the stock speakers it's been a huge improvement.

Anyone? "Okay thanks guys. The sound is very closed like in aquarium, almost like it cut in frequencies. Any ideas on replacement unit?"

Depends on what you're needing on it?

Personally, I wouldn't buy a head unit without Bluetooth. So here are 3 I'd choose from, depending on budget / requirements :

No CD Player : http://www.halfords.com/technology/...e-ute-72bt-car-stereo-with-bluetooth-and-ipod

Has CD Player + DAB : http://www.halfords.com/technology/...-bt39dab-car-stereo-with-bluetooth-hands-free

If you need Double DIN, with CD player, + Dab : http://www.halfords.com/technology/...x-406dab-double-din-with-bluetooth-hands-free

Or if you don't need DAB but need double DIN :

These are all relatively cheap though. And are what I am currently trying to decide between for my current car.

Sorry but I'm new into car audio and audio overall, what is DAB? I would prefer to have cd/usb and ("aux if possible").

Single dim would be fine as there is a adaptor on rainforest very cheap Also what would be a difference between something like this one http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-stereos/pioneer-deh-x3700ui-car-stereo and the one you recommended http://www.halfords.com/technology/...-bt39dab-car-stereo-with-bluetooth-hands-free

This is what I got at the moment stock head unit.

Bluetooth for a start. It's probably the result of me driving a lot, and am quite pedantic about trying to answer my phone every time (work related), but I just find having hands-free a must in my car. Even more-so when you are already swapping out the head unit, why wouldn't you just go for the one with Bluetooth built in? I don't generally stream music from my phone, as I usually rock USB stick for that, but having the capability to do that is nice too. Most stereos today will have USB and Aux in. The need for an actual CD player then becomes mostly redundant, since it is usually much easier to just hook your phone up via either BT, USB or Aux in, or use USB sticks, or Ipods or whatever than carrying a pile of CD's around.

Other than that, I just prefer the sound I have had, in the past admittedly, of Kenwood or Alpine car stereo than I have had from Pioneer. I'm sure things have changed, but it's just my opinion. I'm sure JVC make cracking head units too.

As for DAB, that's digital radio. I use it a reasonable amount in my 5 series, so I am leaning towards going for a DAB unit in my SEAT again. But then I'm not sure I really want to spend an extra £70 for it, lol.

I'm by no means an expert on car audio though. And I couldn't tell you the differences between a £100 stereo and a £300 with the same feature set (on the surface at least). But I generally just look for the Kenwood or Alpine with the features I want, and decide between them.

Your head unit is a double din so if you went single din you'd still need to buy either a blanking plate or a pocket.

Go Double Din and ensure whatever you buy has

  • Bluetooth
  • Usb port (easily accessable)
  • Sim slot

I use SD cards on mine. Using Bluetooth you would then need to power your phone (wires) and if you touch your phone whilst driving you could end up with points on your licence - Regardless of the fact you were faffing with the shuffle button etc.

That's plenty good enough and has the features you require but it's single din.

Yes you would need a fascia adapter AND a blanking plate (or pocket/cubby hole)

AND you need to buy the correct electronic adapter to connect to your loom.

Using the correct adapters means you don't have to splice into any power sources.

[Edit]

Sorry just seen your second link. I'd go for that one if I were you

Also if I were to replace stock speakers for significant improvement over stock one, how much would t cost and what speakers?

JBL and Alpine do some decent budget speakers, I'm on the same boat as you atm. But I haven't had the time to properly research radio's and speakers.

BTW Halfords fit the stereo components for you for free when you buy from them.

I didn't know that. That is great! Did you replaced your head unit?

As everyone else has said, do the head unit first then worry about speakers. You'll likely be able to get some half decent ones for not a whole lot of money but you'll probably find you're happy enough with the sound even after just changing the head unit. Even keeping stock speakers and changing the head unit while adding a sub would make a world of difference too. Worry about the rest once you've done the HU :)

That's probably because it isn't necessarily true?

Prices for fitting start at £29.99 according to that.
