I think i may need to upgrade my 6870 for the above games. Have only been running promod and CSGO in 1920x1080

Run an i5 2500k and want to spend about £150. Completely out of touch with hardware so have no idea where to start!

thanks in advance

I did originally link the GTX770 page - not sure why I removed the link tbh. However, I would say they are both on par with each other in terms of performance.

I suppose it depends how strict his budget is. If it were me then I'd probably take the AMD option as they tend to support older cards better :)

Cheers. Looks like the 380 could be the ticket. But the 390 looks much faster according to the stats, would I notice the difference though considering my i5 2500 and 1080 set up?

Also only have a 500w PSU so things are starting to add up quickly.

Hi there,

Have got a GTX 770 4GB (4790K/16GB) and am looking to prep for Fallout 4 @ 4K. Just wondered what the feeling was on spending £150 on another 770 for SLI or selling it and getting a 970, or pushing for a 980. I gather you don't exactly see a doubling of processing power getting a second of the same card so looking at the single option mostly I think, and there's the warm case to think about with two cards dumping heat into the case with big fans.

Or go the AMD route?

Thanks for any suggestions!

If you had a 2GB 770 I would say definitely no for Ultra HD. With 4GB 770s in SLI you will be about as fast as a 980 when SLI is working properly. It's a much cheaper option than getting a 980 as long as you can deal with the extra heat/noise.

390 is a very good option also if you can cope with the possibility that there could be problems with some Gameworks features in the game if the past repeats itself. Not much slower than a 980 but much more affordable (around £260). Find it a bit difficult to recommend the 970 for 2160p as it doesn't excel at this resolution.

If you are going 4k then I would want at the very minimum a GTX 980. I know FO4 is supposedly not very demanding but any game at 4k needs serious power compared to 1080 and 1440P.

The best entry level card for 4k is the Radeon Fury. At around £400 it's faster than the 980 at 4k and only a tiny bit slower than the X.

Problem is you will probably want to buy second hand, and they certainly don't sell for the £270 or so that a 980 does.

I would say that if you are buying a GPU solely for Fallout 4 then go with the 980. If you want to do any more than that at 4k get the Fury.
