H80i air alternative

To be perfectly honest, yes, especially if there's no physical sign of deterioration or any visible indication of potential leakage.

I'd take the same risk with any AIO cooler out there and not only Corsair. Keep in mind that these units are vacuum sealed in the factory, if there are any flaws during assembly, they are most likely to get caught before packaging. And if for some reason they slipped QC, any sign of a potential problem will likely to be apparent in the first couple of hours of usage. If you've had the cooler running for a week or so in your system with no issues, chances are, the cooler will work as intended for a long time.

Ive had it in and running for about 18 month to be honest.
it hasnt gave me any reason to worry about it.
just Im needing to buy a new cooler for another build so im torn between going for a high end air cooler or another AIO either way the new one is going into my main machine.

If that's the case, then there is no good reason to think that it'll give you some problems.

As for deciding between high Air cooler vs another AIO, that really depends on what kind of build you are going for and a bit of self preference of course.

What about that s40 you was talking about before or even a h110 gtx.

for a cooler how about a silver arrow.
Im really just trying to weigh up options.
as I say I'm needing an extra cooler for a build im doing so if I buy a new cooler it would go onto my main machine.

I like the idea of the kelvin range of coolers from F/D but I have been looking at air coolers and trying to weigh up options.

Ok for high end air coolers its the 1 i linked or the d14 or d15, but the other thing with air coolers you just got to make sure it clears the ram.

I use a Scythe Kotetsu on my 4.5ghz 4690k, at idle and during general browsing, music, films etc it is cooled totally passive with the CPU cooler fan off and it doesn't get much above 40-45c.

When under load the fan is set to ramp up through 500-900RPM (still virtually silent) and it keeps temps below 65.

Bare in mind I haven't used any of the silly stress tests, these are all real world uses. I could run something like ASUS real bench and see how the temps go if you're interested.

you got a picture? thats better temps than I get with my H80i!!!
I take it the Phanteks PH-TC14PE should be more than capable?

I could do some photos but as with anything temps vary with room temp, case design and other fans. Themis coolers surprised me. I do have several rigs and my main now has a DH15 (2nd hand of MM).

I am leaning towards the DH15 Ive read a few reviews where the DH15 seems to be on par with the H100i even with the CPU being overclocked

wish I could get on to the MM and see if there was a D15 on there the now but sadly not enough posts yet

If you dont mind that would be great. Ive started to use realbench my self and havent went near anything else.

what volts are you using on youre vcore at 4.5Ghz? I have mine at 1.25

From what I've read, the newest AIOs like the H110i's are soundedly beating the air coolers in load testing now - it's only likely to continue in that direction. Only so far you can go with a giant block of metal! Meanwhile AIOs can improve on the pump and rad every iteration.

I just put a cm hyper 212 in my sisters build on ROG bench(stress test) it doesn't exeed 70c. That's with a 3570k @ 4.5ghz. With the sp120 fan I put on silent at around 1000rpm. Cooler cost £25. Very good for the price.

Ok just done a 15 minute stress run on real bench, max temp was 59c and according to CPU-Z that's 4.5ghz @ 1.227v. CPU fan was at 900RPM which I can barely hear.

Not bad for a single tower heatsink and a single 120mm fan @900rpm, it blows any of my previous AIOs out of the water for both performance and the most important factor to me, noise.

thats better temps than I get with my H80i granted im on slightly higher vcore

update!!! I went for a Phanteks PH-TC14PE and im happy. its running cooler under load and I would say is quieter in general use and again runs a few c cooler than it did with the H80i

yea I know I keep getting told the same.... its massive!!
Im half tempted to see if I can paint the raised lettering black or silver..

Nice one!

I have a dark rock pro 3 sat here for the past few weeks, still haven't got around to fitting it. The Scythe does such a good job I'm wondering if it's even worth swapping...

yea Im well chuffed with the performance.

you can only try it and see

I'm lazy, I find unplugging everything and stripping the machine down a real ball ache TBH. I will probably get around to fitting it when I have more free time but at the minute I just don't see the point.

What fan speeds do you run at idle/load on the Phanteks?

ive got them set up as PWM and a custom curve in the fan software

with the H80i if I ran IBT i would see high 78c to 80c on some of the cores.
with the same overclock running IBT the max ill get is 70c
