Looking at getting a new mp3 player tomorrow, for general listening/working out.
deciding between an ipod touch 6th gen or the sony Walkman nwz-a15. when I went from my original ipod to a sony the difference was amazing, is this still the case with the newer variants?

I know a lot of quality comes down to headphones and audio files but assuming both of these are excellent which player would be the best?
both at around the same price point, but ipod can do internet/games/email etc.... i'd assume it suffers somewhere on sound or something.

The FiiO X1 (£99) sounds better than either and supports FLAC and ALAC lossless formats but only has a battery life of around 11~12 hours.

if its purely for music youre probably better with the walkman, sound quality doesnt appear to rate highly on Apples list of requirements for anything.

that fiio actually looks really good and seems to get really good reviews aswell.
was mainly looking at the two I listed as they're available in shops nearby whereas the fiio isn't, but online delivery doesn't usually take long anyway.

I love my X1, the sound quality is superb for the money.

One thing, the X1 doesn't come with any internal storage so you'll need to add a microSD card to the order if you decide to go for it. I bought a 64GB card a couple of months ago, I think it cost me £18.

I like the iPod 6th Gen better than both. The X1 has a better line out but the iPod sounds smoother. It's preference really. I think technically the X1 is for sure better but the UI of the Classic is a dream. I vote Fiio X3 2nd generation which isn't much more expensive.

I like my ipod 2015 cos its tiny and lasts quite a while between charges; since i use sennheisser earbuds with it i doubt i could tell the difference between a decent mp3 and lossless,

What that the X3II is a big jump? The dac in the X3ii is a few levels above on paper, has a better amp section and better features and build. Listening wise I think it's not that far behind the X5 but it's preference. The X1 was good but I'd personally feel going back to it would be a downgrade from my X5 where as the X3ii not so much.

You now have an X5? Jeez, you change your gear more often than most people change their socks - wish my pockets were as deep :D

Pet store management doesn't pay that well lol - There was a deal for an X5 so grabbed it with some spare PayPal money. I'm in the market for some IEMs though but know nout about them lol

Possibly. I've heard the X5ii before. Sounds the same as the X5 to me but it's built different. Isn't the X7 meant to be like £600 or so? It better be something special for that price!

Yes, it's not going to be cheap but then again they are trying to compete with Astell & Kearn and the X7 is a bargain compared with those.

I'm in the market for some IEMs though but know nout about them lol

Knowing your tastes I think something like the RHA MA750 (£80) would be a good place to start, it is pretty neutral with gorgeous mids and the highs are rolled off in the same way as the HD650, so not much in the way of sibilance.
If you want something more detailed and punchy I very much like the Fidue A73 (£95) a hybrid dynamic and balanced armature IEM which ticks all of my boxes.
The Dunu DN-1000 (£125) another two way hybrid, is like a slightly more refined Fidue A73 and could be right up your street.
If smooth, creamy mids are the target then the HiFiMan RE-400 (£60) and RE-600 (£160) are definitely worth a listen.
If you want a more analytical sound then the Fidue A83 (£270) and Dunu DN-2000J (£225), both three way dynamic/balanced armature hybrids take some beating
