Does anyone know a rough cost of these things, there is literally nothing on the global payments website about cost of purchase or monthly fees.
As importantly, what sort of hoops do you need to jump through to obtain one?

These things I mean

Costs vary - Worth costing up how much you plan to use it.

Some you can get for free and no monthly cost and pay around 2.9% per transaction - Great for occasional use.

Some you pay for the machine and a monthly rental but the transaction costs reduce to under 0.5%. Costs can vary a lot on rental.

our card machine cost £240 for the year to hire. Then there are fees per card put through the machine. So it depends how many cards your going to process.

Oh OK then...
Maybe the internet of OcUK can help me get a better deal one then..
iZettle looks a little um "tacky" though.
I'd like to at least look like a professional outfit. :D

can you not get one from your bank - I'd assume some of the third party payment services would be hitting you with extra fees?

See this post two above yours. You can't ask 'what's the cheapest' thing without giving some specs. How many transactions you're planning monthly, things like that.

And massive, clunky, out-dated card readers like in the OP look just great? :p

No not at all, any product that still uses beige/grey housing should be burnt. :D

Would just be nice if it was constructed with nicer materials and didn't look like a poorly made calculator. I would not feel confident putting my card into that thing.

Do not use handepay/worldpay combo. They have contracts that are very legally grey.

We are going to have a problem with them in the next few weeks when we cancel the contract, as they have automatically rolled on a new one without contacting us, saying we are now tied into another two years.

Had this very problem myself with handepay/worldpay/streamline. They're crooks. You might find that not only have they automatically put you on another 2 year contract but even when you do give them notice to cancel they'll try to charge you a cancelation fee too.

iZettle is great, especially as they charge on a sliding scale. If I remember rightly I worked out that you needed to put at least £10k a year through it before it was worth going for a traditional terminal from someone like Netpay.

We originally went for Elavon through Santander but it was an absolute joke so now just use iZettle.

The app is really good too if you spend a bit of time setting it up it looks pretty slick.

Going by the spam I keep getting to my public forum address, the answer is very affordable and your business is hurting by not using the machine from *spammy company name here*.

Some good tips here, thanks.

someone mentioned going with what the bank offers..
This is what I was expecting, I'm with HSBC so went to the Global payments inc website as that's what their site linked me to.
Couldn't find ANY of the information I needed to know. Hence the start of this thread.
The other blutooth iZettle looks a little less like "my first calculator". (Didn't spot that one earlier) I think this may be the better option for now.
I have no idea how much I'm going to put through it to start with but clearly the more the better.
